What Electrical Engineering Technician contributes to Cardinal Health

Engineering is responsible for performing research and analyses to develop design options for components, products, systems and processes.

Electrical Engineering Technicians are responsible for building, testing and troubleshooting control systems and automation equipment.

Responsibilities:

  • Install, maintain, and repair control systems and automation equipment to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues with control systems, PLCs, HMIs, sensors, and other automation components.
  • Develop and modify PLC programs, HMI screens, and control logic to improve system performance and meet project requirements.
  • Integrate new equipment and control systems into existing manufacturing processes, ensuring seamless operation and minimal disruption.
  • Wire control panels according to electrical schematics and ensure proper connections and functionality.
  • Create and maintain accurate documentation of control system configurations, wiring diagrams, and software programs.
  • Ensure all control systems and equipment comply with safety standards and regulations. Implement safety protocols and procedures as necessary.
  • Develop and execute preventive maintenance schedules to minimize downtime and extend the lifespan of control systems and equipment.
  • Work closely with engineers, maintenance technicians, and production teams to support manufacturing operations and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Provide training and technical support to staff on the operation and maintenance of control systems and automation equipment.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma, GED or equivalent, or equivalent work experience, preferred
  • ​Associate’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Technology, or a related field preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Controls Technician, preferably in a manufacturing or engineering environment preferred
  • Proficiency in programming and troubleshooting PLCs, HMIs, and control systems preferred
  • Strong knowledge of electrical and control system principles preferred
  • Experience with control system integration and automation preferred
  • Knowledge of safety standards and regulations related to control systems and automation preferred

  • Maintains appropriate licenses, training and certifications

  • Works on assignments that are moderately difficult requiring judgment in resolving issues

  • May assist in recommendation of processes on new assignments

  • Adheres to all quality guidelines

  • Works with limited supervision

  • Work occasionally involves review of output by work lead or supervisor

  • May provide general guidance or technical assistance to less experienced team members

Anticipated hourly range: $25.90-$36.80 per hour
