Job Description

As a Controls Supervisor, you will be a key member of the Advanced Technology Platform (ATP) Organization within the Automation and Controls Engineering (ACE) division. In this role, you will leverage strong capabilities in industrial processing, controls, software, and IIoT systems to lead projects supporting manufacturing (PTME, VO & BME) using advanced technologies. You will be a technical leader who:

  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams including Manufacturing, IT, Global Vehicle Product Engineering (GVPE), Product Development, Robotics & Automation, and external suppliers.
  • Benchmarks advanced technologies and develop supplier partnerships to support Zero Faults Forward (ZFF) capabilities.
  • Provides technical leadership, mentoring, and rigorous knowledge documentation.
  • Interfaces directly with Manufacturing Operations to identify and solve technical challenges and opportunities.
  • Ensures lessons learned are identified, documented, and applied to all future projects to drive continuous improvement

As a Controls Supervisor, you will ensure the technical integrity and operational excellence of our manufacturing systems. Your responsibilities include:

Standards, Strategy & Design:

  • Standards Management: Maintain and provide feedback on standards, lessons learned, and the useful life matrix; manage "Basket of Goods" costs and component selection.
  • Risk & Compliance: Oversee the deviation process, IT systems integration standards, and machinery safety risk assessments.
  • Design Leadership: Support cycle line/facilities layout and lead comprehensive controls design reviews.
  • Virtual Commissioning: Lead the coordination with the GVPE team for Controls Virtual Commissioning to validate system logic and software in a digital environment, ensuring a seamless transition to physical installation.

Strategic Leadership & Program Delivery:

  • Simultaneous Engineering: Co-lead meetings with Tier I suppliers and orchestrate controls program reviews across the program lifecycle (from study phase to launch).
  • Organization Driver: Resolve critical issues regarding feasibility, timing, cost, and workload; drive the implementation of standard software/hardware architectures globally.
  • Innovation: Deliver non-program controls projects and lead initiatives tied to Smart Factory and the PTME technology development process

Operational Excellence & Validation:

  • Technical Oversight: Provide high-level troubleshooting and fault analysis expertise for downtime resolution.
  • Data & System Validation: Provide direction and validation for FIS/IIoT data, Andon system functions, PLC logic, and station numbering.
  • Performance Optimization: Utilize Industrial Engineering concepts (constraint and productivity analysis) to optimize system throughput.
  • Mentorship: Teach, coach, and mentor the engineering team, ensuring "Lessons Learned" are captured and applied to future strategies.

To be successful in this leadership role, you must have an extensive technical background and the ability to manage complex program deliveries

Basic Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience in controls engineering.
  • Leadership: Strong project management, organizational, and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Delivery: Significant exposure to all program delivery elements, from the cost study phase through to final launch.

Technical Skills & Knowledge:

  • Automation Programming Deep knowledge of programming principles for Industrial Automation, including Schneider, Bosch, Siemens, and Rockwell.
  • Troubleshooting: Hands-on ability to troubleshoot PLC, robot, vision, and other complex automation issues.
  • Systems & Networking: Experience with networking/communication protocols, field bus protocols, and communication network architectures.
  • Specialized Systems: Knowledge of RFID systems (complexity management, scheduling, QOS) and extensive knowledge of IT standard applications (e.g., IIoT, QLSM, QWX, QDAS, OBL, PDS).
  • Safety & Standards: Knowledge of international electrical/safety standards (UL, ISO, IEC) and internal/external safety processes (Risk Assessments, PSS, Integrated Safety).
  • Engineering Fundamentals: Ability to read and interpret Electrical, Pneumatic, and Hydraulic prints.
  • Process Engineering: Familiarity with GPDS deliverables and the plant operational impact of controls designs.
