Job Description

The Controls Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of automation and control systems used in manufacturing and packaging operations. This position develops and supports PLC, HMI, and related control systems to ensure efficient, safe, and reliable production processes. The Controls Engineer works closely with operations, maintenance, quality, and engineering teams to troubleshoot issues, implement improvements, and ensure compliance with company procedures and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

•Design, develop, program, and maintain PLC, HMI, and industrial control systems supporting manufacturing and packaging equipment.

Troubleshoot automation, electrical, and controls-related issues to minimize downtime and maintain efficient operations.

• Support installation, commissioning, and validation of new equipment, automation systems, and process improvements.

• Collaborate with engineering, maintenance, and operations teams to identify and implement automation improvements that enhance productivity, reliability, and safety.

• Maintain documentation for control systems including electrical drawings, software backups, and change records.

• Assist in developing and implementing preventive maintenance procedures for automation and control systems.

• Ensure automation systems comply with company quality standards, safety requirements, and regulatory guidelines.

• Support continuous improvement initiatives to optimize equipment performance and manufacturing processes.

• Provide technical support and training to maintenance and operations staff related to automation systems.

• Responsible for adherence to all Company policies and procedures.

• Works to improve the effectiveness of the quality management system through the use of the quality policy, quality objectives, audit results, analysis of data, corrective and preventive actions.

• Ensures employees are trained according to their roles.

• Addresses complaints and problems, elevates to Leadership when needed.

• Ensures proper PPE’s and Safety procedures are followed.

• Instills a sense of quality through modeled quality behaviors and mindset.

• Flexibly works other shifts, shifts may be 8, 10 or 12 hours as needed.

Performs any other functions and duties assigned and necessary for the smooth and efficient operation of Praxis Packaging Solutions.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Automation Engineering, or other technically related field required, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

• 3–5 years’ experience in industrial automation, controls engineering, or manufacturing environments preferred.

• Experience with PLC programming (such as Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar platforms).

• Experience with HMI/SCADA systems and industrial communication networks.

• Experience troubleshooting electrical and automation systems in a manufacturing environment.

• Familiarity and understanding of GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) environments preferred.
