Job Description

The Controls Automation Systems Engineer Intern will work within defined parameters to support the Control Automation team in the design and implementation of hardware control cabinets, control system architecture, IED configuration, and HMI/SCADA systems.
The intern will be part of a project delivery team responsible for defining hardware, system configuration, and network technical requirements for HVDC control systems used in substation and power system applications.

As an Intern you will report within the Control and Protections Systems Department. The successful candidate will be part of a highly motivated, dynamic and growing team of engineers working on the design of HVDC Control Systems. This is a very exciting and dynamic field of control engineering in which GE’s leading contribution has worldwide recognition.

HVDC Control & Protection Systems Engineering supports the design and implementation of HVDC Control and Protection Systems by analysing customer requirements, assessing the necessary deviation from standard solutions, modelling the proposed HVDC control system, providing requirements for the hardware and software teams to implement and validate the resulting system.

Responsibilities:
• Work as part of an expert team, giving ample opportunity for learning design and development skills highly relevant for working with any control and protection system; in particular, power electronics systems and grid technology.
• Execute with guidance from senior engineering resources, the analysis, simulation, test, and integration required to define, and support assigned components, modules or systems that meet business standards Including:
• PSSE/PSCAD and PSSE/RSCAD Power system network conversion, modelling and verification.
• Plant modelling of HVDC System in various simulation tools (MATLAB, RSCAD, PSCAD etc) and its verification.
• Support in producing required technical documentation, under the supervision of senior engineers.
• Follow the departments standard design practices, engineering reviews and guidelines.
• Use some level of judgment and has ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters but with guidance

The Person:
The candidate will have completed 2 years of degree level in a related science such as Electrical Engineering, or equivalent knowledge or experience. However, this is not as important as a proven track record and evidence that you have the mind-set and abilities to perform the role.
