Job Description

Reporting to the Controller, the Asst. Controller will need to have good accounting, controllership and financial reporting experience. The successful candidate will manage the financial accounting, GAAP and tax reporting and internal controls for open-ended, alternative investment funds. The Asst. Controller will manage multiple responsibilities across the team including:

Responsibilities:

  • Provide oversight over Fund Administration team and handle day to day accounting matters such as cash management, accounts payable/receivable, monthly general ledger reconciliation, shareholder capital activity, incentive and management fees.
  • Maintain internal control procedures and systems resulting in Sarbanes Oxley Compliance
  • Provide controllership functions in order to ensure finances are managed according to policies and procedures and generally accepted accounting principles
  • Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and reporting requirements
  • Oversee the audit and quarterly review process, including administratively managing audit requests and questions
  • Support the executive team by consistently analyzing financial data and presenting financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; producing and clearly communicating up-to-date monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements; monitoring progress and changes and keeping senior leadership abreast of the company's financial status
  • Assist leadership in the annual budgeting and planning process for the company and all departments; administer and review all financial plans, maintain accuracy of department expense allocations, and compare budgets to actual results with a view to identify, explain, and correct variances as appropriate
  • Maintain internal control and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs, budgets and actual expenditures.
  • Maintain day-to-day banking relationships and act as key contact for external auditors
  • Ensure all non-routine reporting transactions occur accurately and by respective due dates
  • Monitor and analyze department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy and ensure accounting systems and processes are continually streamlined via process improvement to achieve greater efficiencies and accuracy in the level, and timeliness of reporting

Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of relevant experience as an assistant controller or senior accountant of a public company, or at a Big 4 Accounting firm, with direct experience in open-ended, fair value evergreen funds with a diverse portfolio of alternative investments.
  • Strong academic credentials (CPA recommended)
  • Good technical accounting skills encompassing both U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting.
  • Superior verbal and written skills
  • Individual must be collaborative to effectively liaise with Asset and Wealth Management business partners and colleagues as well as able to work independently.
  • An energetic, forward thinking, creative individual with high ethical standards, strong drive and initiative
  • Excellent organizational skills and interpersonal skills, including the ability to resolve internal differences and observe confidentiality.
  • Role requires individual to be nimble and flexible to balance multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • The ability to take on a task and "run with it" to conclusion is a critical characteristic of this role
  • Strong understanding of investment company accounting (ASC 946) and fair value to historical GAAP adjustments

Salary Range

The expected base salary for this New York, New York, United States-based position is $100000-$250000. In addition, you may be eligible for a discretionary bonus if you are an active employee as of fiscal year-end.
