The Controller oversees day-to-day accounting operations for Pinehurst, LLC and related entities, ensures the accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting, and supports sound financial decision-making across the organization. This role partners closely with Division Heads and senior leadership to maintain strong internal controls, support budgeting and forecasting, manage compliance requirements, and safeguard company assets.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is required, along with at least seven years of progressively responsible accounting or financial management experience, preferably within the hospitality industry; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A master’s degree and/or CPA designation is preferred. Experience leading accounting teams, preparing financial statements, managing audits, and maintaining internal controls is strongly preferred.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Provide a high level of professionalism, responsiveness, and service to Members, Guests, Visitors, Business Partners, and fellow employees.
• Follow all property and departmental policies, procedures, and safety standards.
• Promote a safe and secure work environment by using equipment and materials properly and reporting unsafe conditions promptly.
• Lead the day-to-day accounting operations, including but not limited to journal entries, reconciliations, payroll, financial reporting and analysis, fixed asset accounting, and the preparation of federal, state, and local tax filings.
• Prepare accurate and timely periodic financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, for four related entities.
• Review financial results and supporting information to identify trends, variances, risks, and opportunities, and communicate findings to appropriate leaders.
• Partner with Division Heads and senior leadership to support financial presentations, operational decision-making, and long-range planning.
• Establish, maintain, and strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures designed to protect company assets and support compliance.
• Support the annual budget process and quarterly forecasting activities in collaboration with the Director of Finance, Director of Revenue Management, and Division Heads.
• Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations related to payroll, tax reporting, withholdings, sales and use tax, and other financial requirements.
• Manage banking relationships and oversee cash management activities, including treasury support, wire transfers, ACH processing, and related transactions.
• Coordinate with external auditors and other business partners on the annual audit, financial reviews, and related compliance matters.
• Serve as a key administrator for financial reporting, general ledger, and fixed asset systems, and support process improvements that enhance reporting accuracy and efficiency.
• Develop team capability through coaching, training, succession planning, and support for key accounting positions.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position provides leadership for accounting personnel, including managers, supervisors, and support staff, representing approximately 10 employees. The Controller is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these functions, including the Assistant Controller, Staff Accountants, Senior Clerks, and Payroll team. Supervisory responsibilities include staffing, onboarding, training, work assignment, coaching, performance management, employee development, and resolution of employee relations issues in accordance with company policies and applicable laws.
