Position Overview

A growing manufacturing organization is seeking an experienced Controller to lead its accounting function and oversee financial reporting, close activities, cost accounting, controls, and related financial processes.

This is a hands-on leadership position for someone who is comfortable operating at both the strategic and detailed levels. The Controller will partner closely with senior leadership and operational teams while ensuring the accounting organization provides accurate, timely, and useful financial information.

The ideal candidate will bring strong manufacturing accounting experience, including inventory, work-in-process, labor, overhead, standard costing, and variance analysis. Experience supporting a government contracting or defense-related environment is highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
  • Oversee general ledger activity, journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and financial statement preparation.
  • Maintain accurate and timely financial reporting in accordance with GAAP.
  • Provide leadership for manufacturing and cost accounting activities.
  • Oversee accounting for inventory, WIP, labor, overhead, standard costs, and manufacturing variances.
  • Analyze operating results, margins, costs, and other financial performance indicators.
  • Partner with Finance and operational leadership on budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, and financial planning.
  • Maintain and strengthen accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Support external audits and other financial compliance activities.
  • Support government contract accounting requirements, including direct and indirect cost structures.
  • Assist with applicable FAR, DFARS, and DCAA-related accounting requirements.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop members of the accounting team while remaining actively involved in day-to-day accounting activities.
  • Identify opportunities to improve financial reporting, accounting processes, internal controls, ERP utilization, and automation.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Operations and other areas of the business to improve financial visibility and decision-making.
  • Support additional financial initiatives as the organization continues to grow.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • Approximately 7+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Strong experience managing full-cycle financial close activities.
  • Solid understanding of GAAP and general ledger accounting.
  • Manufacturing and cost accounting experience.
  • Experience with inventory, WIP, standard costing, direct labor, overhead, and variance analysis.
  • Financial statement preparation and analysis experience.
  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.
  • Strong understanding of internal controls and accounting policies.
  • Experience supporting financial audits.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Experience working with ERP and accounting systems.

Highly Preferred Experience

  • CPA or progress toward CPA.
  • Experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • Government contracting or defense-related accounting experience.
  • Familiarity with FAR, DFARS, and DCAA requirements.
  • Experience with direct and indirect cost accounting.
  • Experience improving accounting systems, processes, reporting, or automation.

Leadership Profile

The successful candidate will be:

  • Hands-on: Comfortable working in the details rather than managing solely from a high level.
  • Accountable: Takes ownership of commitments and follows issues through to resolution.
  • Analytical: Understands the numbers while also recognizing their broader operational impact.
  • Practical: Focuses on workable solutions and continuous improvement.
  • Adaptable: Comfortable operating within a growing organization where processes continue to evolve.
  • Collaborative: Able to build effective working relationships across Finance, Operations, and leadership.
  • Team-oriented: Develops people, shares knowledge, and creates accountability within the accounting organization.
  • Process-minded: Continually looks for opportunities to improve accuracy, efficiency, reporting, and controls.
  • High-integrity: Handles sensitive financial information with sound judgment, professionalism, and discretion.

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to work primarily onsite in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
  • Ability to work within a manufacturing environment and periodically interact with production operations.
  • Limited travel may be required.
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance.
