Controller

A rapidly growing consumer products company has exclusively engaged with us to identify an experienced Controller who can take ownership of the company's accounting function during an important stage of growth.

This is an opportunity for a strong, hands-on accounting professional who enjoys taking ownership, creating structure, and getting the work done. Rather than stepping into a large established accounting department, you'll have the opportunity to bring greater accounting ownership in-house, strengthen processes, and build a financial foundation capable of supporting the company's continued growth.

The position reports directly to the CFO and will have significant responsibility for the company's day-to-day accounting operations, financial close, reporting, systems, and inventory accounting. The current environment utilizes QuickBooks Online, with Shopify experience highly preferred.

What You'll Own

• Lead the monthly accounting close and maintain the integrity of the general ledger.
• Take ownership of the company's accounting processes and systems.
• Strengthen and maintain accurate inventory accounting and related controls.
• Prepare accurate financial reporting for internal leadership and external stakeholders.
• Support reporting requirements for banking, insurance, and other external partners.
• Manage reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, and other core accounting activities.
• Help transition accounting activities from an outsourced model to greater internal ownership.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, documentation, and reporting.
• Partner directly with the CFO while independently driving accounting priorities and deadlines.
• Help prepare the organization for increasingly sophisticated financial reporting and future financial statement audits.

One of the key early priorities will be establishing strong inventory accounting and ensuring inventory is being accounted for accurately.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who is comfortable being both the Controller and a hands-on accountant. This role is best suited for a professional who doesn't need a large team or extensive infrastructure around them to be successful.

The ideal candidate will bring:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
• Strong hands-on accounting and controllership experience.
• Demonstrated ownership of the month-end close.
• Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting.
• Meaningful experience with inventory accounting.
• Experience in consumer products, eCommerce, retail, DTC, distribution, or another inventory-driven environment preferred.
• QuickBooks Online experience.
• Shopify experience highly preferred.
• Intermediate or stronger Excel capabilities.
• Experience improving accounting processes and establishing controls in a growing organization.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize competing responsibilities, and consistently drive work through completion.
• Strong judgment and the confidence to work directly with senior leadership.
