Job Description

CONTROLLER

Sizemore Welding | Bunnell, Florida | Full-Time, Exempt

Help Build the Financial Systems Behind a Growing Manufacturing Operation

Sizemore Welding is seeking an experienced, hands-on Controller who can bring strong financial discipline to our manufacturing operation while helping us improve the systems and processes that support the business.

This is not a Controller role where you simply review reports prepared by others. We are looking for someone who is comfortable getting into the details—owning the monthly close, strengthening inventory and product costing, improving financial controls, monitoring cash flow, and providing leadership with reliable information to make sound business decisions.

Just as importantly, we need someone who can help take our systems to the next level.

We are looking to identify and implement a new ERP system that can better connect our financial and operational processes, including integrating customer purchase orders into our system and accelerating the creation of work orders for the shop. The ideal candidate will bring practical ERP implementation or start-up experience and understand how purchasing, inventory, production, costing, and accounting need to work together in a manufacturing environment.

What You’ll Do

As Controller, you will report directly to the CEO and work closely with our fractional CFO and operational leaders. Key responsibilities include:

  • Own the monthly close process and prepare timely, accurate financial statements and management reports.
  • Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, banking transactions, reconciliations, and other day-to-day accounting activities.
  • Establish and maintain reliable inventory accounting, including reconciliation between physical inventory, inventory records, and the general ledger.
  • Develop and maintain accurate product costing, including material, labor, overhead, and other product-related costs.
  • Analyze product margins, cost variances, labor efficiency, scrap and rework, purchasing trends, and other manufacturing cost drivers.
  • Coordinate the annual budgeting process, maintain periodic forecasts, and prepare and update a 13-week cash forecast.
  • Monitor accounts receivable aging, collections, customer terms, cash flow, and working-capital trends.
  • Develop and strengthen accounting policies, procedures, internal controls, and financial processes.
  • Provide meaningful financial analysis that helps leadership understand revenue, margins, inventory, labor costs, cash flow, and operating performance.
  • Help lead the evaluation, selection, start-up, and implementation of a new ERP system.
  • Develop and improve processes for integrating customer purchase orders into the ERP system and efficiently converting customer orders into shop work orders.
  • Partner with operations and other stakeholders to ensure the ERP system effectively supports purchasing, inventory, production/work orders, product costing, and accounting.
  • Identify opportunities to improve automation, system integration, data accuracy, workflow efficiency, and reporting.
  • Coordinate with outside accountants, tax professionals, auditors, and other external service providers.

What We’re Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • 5+ years of progressively responsible accounting experience, including hands-on responsibility for month-end close, financial reporting, reconciliations, and internal controls.
  • Hands-on experience with inventory accounting and product or cost accounting in a manufacturing, metal fabrication, or other product-based environment.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing and analyzing financial statements, budgets, forecasts, cash flow reports, and management reporting.
  • Strong proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
  • Practical experience supporting or leading ERP system selection, start-up, implementation, conversion, or significant system improvement.
  • Understanding of purchase order processing and the integration of customer orders, inventory, production/work orders, and accounting within an ERP environment.

Even Better If You Have

  • Experience working with ERP/MRP systems in a manufacturing environment.
  • Previous experience as a Controller, Plant Controller, Accounting Manager, Senior Accountant, or similar hands-on accounting leader in a small or mid-sized manufacturing company.
  • Experience working in a metal fabrication shop.
  • Experience improving processes in an organization transitioning from developing or manual systems to more integrated and automated workflows.

The Person Who Will Thrive Here

You’ll be successful in this role if you are someone who can build as well as manage. You understand accounting fundamentals, but you also see how financial information connects to what is happening on the shop floor.

You are comfortable walking into processes that may still be developing, identifying what needs to change, and creating practical, repeatable solutions. You can move between detailed accounting work and higher-level conversations with the CEO, fractional CFO, operations leaders, vendors, and outside professionals.

Most importantly, you value accuracy, accountability, continuous improvement, and getting things done.

Ready to Make an Impact?

If you are a hands-on accounting professional who enjoys manufacturing, understands ERP systems, and wants the opportunity to help build stronger financial and operational processes, we would like to hear from you.

Apply today to join Sizemore Welding as our next Controller.
