Job Description

Corporate Controller

Privately Held, Multi-Divisional Company
Honolulu, Hawai‘i | Hybrid Schedule

The Opportunity

A long-standing, privately held company headquartered in Honolulu is seeking an accomplished Corporate Controller to lead its accounting and financial reporting function.

The organization owns and operates a diversified portfolio of businesses spanning real estate, restaurants, tourism, and business services. With a strong financial foundation, an established presence in Hawai‘i, and a highly regarded culture, the company offers a rare combination of stability, complexity, and long-term career opportunity.

Reporting to senior financial leadership, the Corporate Controller will oversee a team of approximately 10 professionals and assume responsibility for accounting, financial reporting, internal controls, and consolidation across the organization’s multiple operating businesses.

This is an attractive opportunity for a hands-on accounting leader who enjoys working across different industries, developing people, improving processes, and providing reliable financial information to support executive decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the company’s corporate accounting and financial reporting activities across a diversified portfolio of operating businesses.
  • Manage, mentor, and develop an accounting team of approximately 10 professionals.
  • Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and consistency across the organization.
  • Prepare and review consolidated financial statements, including the elimination of intercompany transactions and balances.
  • Maintain accounting standards, policies, and controls across individual business units.
  • Review financial statements and supporting schedules for the company’s real estate, restaurant, tourism, and service operations.
  • Ensure appropriate revenue recognition, expense classification, balance sheet reconciliations, and general ledger integrity.
  • Partner with business-unit leaders to understand operating results, resolve accounting matters, and improve financial visibility.
  • Coordinate annual audits and serve as a primary contact for external auditors, tax professionals, and other outside advisors.
  • Strengthen internal controls and ensure accounting processes are scalable, well documented, and consistently followed.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline reporting, improve close efficiency, and enhance the use of financial systems and data.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, cash management, tax compliance, and other financial initiatives as needed.
  • Provide senior leadership with clear, accurate, and decision-useful financial information.

Candidate Profile

The successful candidate will be an experienced accounting leader who combines strong technical skills with sound business judgment and an approachable, collaborative leadership style.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA certification strongly preferred; candidates with an active or inactive CPA license will be considered.
  • A blend of public accounting and corporate or industry accounting experience.
  • Significant experience leading month-end close, financial reporting, and consolidated financial statement preparation.
  • Experience working within a privately held, multi-entity, or multi-divisional organization.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting requirements.
  • Prior experience managing and developing an accounting team.
  • Ability to operate effectively across businesses with different operating models and accounting requirements.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to balance strategic priorities with hands-on involvement in the details.
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to build productive relationships with executives, operating leaders, and external advisors.
  • Experience within real estate, hospitality, restaurants, tourism, or service-oriented businesses is helpful but not required.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

  • Join a highly stable and well-established privately held company with a strong reputation in Hawai‘i.
  • Lead the accounting function for a diversified and intellectually engaging portfolio of businesses.
  • Work closely with senior leadership and operating executives across the organization.
  • Inherit an established team while having the opportunity to strengthen processes, reporting, and talent development.
  • Become part of a collaborative organization known for its positive culture and long-tenured employees.
  • Enjoy a hybrid schedule with approximately two to three days per week in the company’s Waikiki office.
