Controller

A growing commercial real estate company is seeking a strong, hands-on Controller to oversee the accounting and financial operations across a portfolio of commercial properties.

This is a high-impact leadership role for someone who can take ownership of the accounting department, manage and develop a team, ensure financials are accurate and timely, and operate as a key partner to ownership. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, organized, and comfortable overseeing the full accounting function in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day accounting operations across multiple properties
• Manage month-end close and ensure accurate, timely financial reporting
• Supervise accounts payable, accounts receivable, tenant billing, and collections
• Review CAM reconciliations, tenant ledgers, and lease-related accounting
• Oversee payroll review, reporting, and financial allocations
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
• Monitor budgets, forecasts, cash flow, and overall financial performance
• Provide reporting and financial analysis to ownership and investors
• Manage and mentor the accounting team while improving workflows and processes
• Assist with audits, tax preparation, and regulatory compliance
• Help implement systems and process improvements to support company growth

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• 4–5+ years of accounting experience required
• Prior experience in commercial real estate or property accounting preferred
• Experience overseeing accounting operations and managing staff preferred
• Strong understanding of financial reporting, month-end close, AP/AR, and reconciliations
• Experience with CAM reconciliations and NNN leases preferred
• Strong Excel and financial analysis skills
• Experience with Yardi, MRI, AppFolio, or similar property management/accounting systems preferred
• Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills
• Ability to operate independently and take ownership of the function
