Job Description

Controller

Our client, a fast-growing, better-for-you snack brand, is seeking a hands-on Controller to lead accounting operations and help build the financial processes that support its next stage of growth.

Reporting to the CFO, you will own the close and financial reporting processes, oversee accounting, Accounts Payable, and Accounts Receivable, and strengthen cash management and internal controls. This is an opportunity to work closely with senior leadership, improve systems and workflows, and make a direct impact on a growing consumer brand.

You bring strong technical accounting skills, sound judgment, and a willingness to get into the details. You're comfortable leading teams while staying close to daily operations, resolving issues, and turning manual processes into more efficient, scalable ways of working.

This is a full-time, hybrid position based in New York City, requiring three days per week in the office.

What You'll Do

Lead accounting and financial reporting

  • Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close, delivering accurate, timely financial statements and management reporting.
  • Maintain general ledger integrity and review balance sheet reconciliations, accruals, provisions, prepayments, intercompany balances, and other significant entries.
  • Ensure compliance with US GAAP, company policies, and established accounting procedures.
  • Coordinate external audits, manage supporting documentation, and resolve identified issues.

Oversee cash, payables, and receivables

  • Manage cash-flow forecasting, liquidity monitoring, bank reconciliations, transfers, banking relationships, and treasury controls.
  • Oversee AP activities, including vendor onboarding, invoice processing, approvals, employee expenses, corporate cards, and payments.
  • Oversee AR activities, including invoicing, cash application, deductions, collections, customer reconciliations, and billing disputes.
  • Establish regular reviews of AP and AR aging, reconciliations, outstanding approvals, payment exceptions, and overdue balances, ensuring clear ownership and timely follow-up.

Strengthen controls and improve processes

  • Maintain effective internal controls, approval procedures, documentation, and appropriate segregation of duties across accounting and financial operations.
  • Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, control checklists, and finance calendars.
  • Identify opportunities to automate activities, improve ERP workflows, and reduce manual work.
  • Coordinate tax compliance with external advisors and escalate material accounting, cash, collection, tax, or control risks to the CFO.

Guide the team and partner across the business

  • Provide day-to-day supervision, direction, and support to AP, AR, and other accounting resources.
  • Set priorities, monitor workloads, and ensure open items and recurring issues are resolved.
  • Partner with the CFO and cross-functional teams to support business needs and scalable growth.

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, Business, or related field; CPA preferred.
  • 7 to 10 years of relevant experience, including a Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, or similar role.
  • Strong US GAAP knowledge and hands-on experience leading close, financial reporting, AP, AR, cash management, and internal controls. IFRS is a plus.
  • Experience supervising accounting teams, improving processes, and establishing effective review procedures.
  • Advanced Excel skills and Microsoft Office, ERP proficiency; Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central experience preferred.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to manage deadlines and partner across the business.
  • CPG, food, consumer products, or other high-volume transactional business experience preferred.

Compensation

The anticipated base salary range is $140,000 - $160,000, plus eligibility for an annual bonus. Actual compensation will reflect the selected candidate's skills, qualifications, experience, education, training, and other relevant business considerations.

Our client is an equal opportunity employer and welcomes candidates of all backgrounds. Employment decisions are made without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, or any other protected characteristic.
