Job Purpose:

A Control Wireman performs routine maintenance and emergency repairs on circuit breakers, transformers, power cables, and other elements at a substation.

Responsibilities

  • Termination of cables in the relay control panels, as well as any outdoor equipment (breakers, VT’s, etc.).
  • All necessary wiring supplies will be available, minus standard hand tools (screwdrivers, wire cutters, needle nose pliers, etc.).
  • Supplied tools include crimpers, wire strippers and cable cutters.
  • Instruction will be given on site as to proper wiring technique desired by the customer, as well as training on proper shield grounding of the control cable.
  • An understanding of wiring diagrams is necessary, as this will be one of the primary means to determine cable location and termination sequence.
  • Assistance in correcting factory wiring may be required, as well as re-wiring existing circuits during a cutover at brown field substations.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Able to pass a pre-employment drug screen due to this being a safety sensitive position.

  • Complete a satisfactory criminal background check.
  • Able to work overtime and travel out of town for periods of time.
  • Able to climb ladders, stand for extended periods, able to lift 70 lbs.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and currently have and be able to maintain a good driving record.

Preferred:

  • NETA certified a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Bachelors or Associates Degree in Electrical/Electronic technology, or Military experience preferred
  • Experience with the following test equipment:

    • Power Factor
    • Ductor
    • Megger
    • CT ration & saturation
    • Hi-Pot
  • Knowledge of the following equipment:

    • Circuit Breakers
    • Low Voltage, Medium Voltage, High Voltage | LV/MV/HV
    • Transformers
    • Switchgear
    • Motors
    • PT's & CCVT's
