Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor and Maintenance Manager, the Control Systems Technician will provide electrical maintenance and programming support to maintenance technicians as necessary, including sickness coverage. The Controls System tech will also support and carry out duties and project work assigned. This position will follow the direction and guidance of the Electrical Engineer.

This position is accountable for effective use and implementation of Predictive Maintenance technologies and systems at the plant. This includes but is not limited to the following “Essential Functions” outlined below:

Pay Rate - $44.82 to $47.01 based on skill level.

Essential Functions

  • Carry out root cause failure analysis on production electrical/control systems and provide recommendations and execute work to prevent recurrence.
  • Lead/participate in cross functional teams on process improvements.
  • Provide support regarding fault finding/modifications/installations of whole site controls systems including PLCs, SCADA, Databases, Communication networks, Instrumentation, variable speed drives etc.
  • The incumbent must be willing and able to work overtime and/or non-standard work schedule based on production needs.
  • Manage process control software and desktop
  • Assists with plant process control network and IP address assignments
  • Assist with Plant Data Historian
  • Helps develop electrical control infrastructure obsolescence plan with Electrical Engineer
  • Drives improvements in control systems
  • Assists with Plant Functional Machine Safety process
  • Train and develop technicians to troubleshoot and fix production electrical/control system failures.
  • Help manage Wonderware software to improve HOP (Health of Process) screens for production
  • Support off-shifts as needed

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Associate’s Degree or Technical Certificate in Electrical/Electronic/Software Engineering or similar field with 3+ years of experience or 8+ years of experience with electrical systems, programming, and troubleshooting in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience of setting up & configuring variable speed drives (Allen Bradley)
  • PLC experience essential. Preferably Allen-Bradley. (Micrologix, SLC 5/05, Compactlogix, Controllogix)
  • Experience in the use of SCADA & HMI packages desirable
  • Able to read electrical schematic drawings essential - Electrical control & safety circuit design knowledge desired (AUTOCAD software)
  • Control Panel design desired, but not required
  • Knowledge of communication protocols (Ethernet IP/RIO/Modbus)
  • Working knowledge of Pneumatic, Hydraulic and other mechanical systems
  • Knowledge and understanding of NEC / NFPA70E standards
  • Knowledge of Functional Safety, Performance Levels, Circuit Categories

Skills & Abilities:

    • Excellent troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
  • Highly PC literate

  • Wonderware Active Factory (Trend, Query, Report use & configuration)

Physical Demands:

Physically fit for climbing and working in awkward positions while investigating and auditing jobs. Able to lift 50 pounds.
