The global Information Technology (IT) Function is leading efforts to align IT and Business Strategy, leverage IT investments, and optimize end to end business processes and associated information integration technologies. Through these efforts, IT helps to improve the competitive position of Corning's businesses through IT enabled processes. IT also delivers Information Technology applications, infrastructure, and project services in a cost efficient manner to Corning worldwide.
Scope of Position:
Corning is seeking a Glassmaking & Fibermaking Systems Engineer to join our team in Wilmington, NC. In this position, you will work with other team members to manage, modify, and develop computer systems required to manufacture optical fiber. You will also participate in or occasionally lead projects to meet the plant's objectives, drive cost reduction efforts and participate in capacity expansion efforts.
Day to Day Responsibilities:
• Assist team of engineers to provide production support and troubleshooting for 24/7 manufacturing operation. Work with production associates, technicians, and engineers to ensure reliable equipment operation via automated control systems and user interfaces.
• Support process and product optimization/improvement efforts.
• Provide training for engineers and/or production associates as needed for new processes, equipment, or control systems.
• Participate in capital projects.
• Some after hours, on-call support will be needed.
Required Education & Experience:
• Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science; or equivalent experience
• 5+ years in a technical role or relevant experience
• Knowledge in computer and PLC programming skills such as: VB, .NET, C, Realtime systems or similar
Desired Education & Experience:
• Ability/experience integrating computers into manufacturing processes to increase efficiency and lower cost
• MS Windows, iFIX, Ethernet IP I/O, Microsoft Office. Real time controls systems, experience with motion systems (desired but not required), SCADA, TwinCAT
• Experience in production support in a manufacturing environment
• Problem-solving and debugging skills; ability to understand real needs behind operations and engineering requests
• Ability/experience troubleshooting simple low voltage electrical circuitry
Travel Requirements & Work Hours:
• Monday-Friday 8AM - 5PM. Occasional off-hours on call
This position does not support immigration sponsorship.
The range for this position is $78,062.00 - $107,335.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
