Job Description

The Control System Owner is responsible for managing the development and release of vehicle control systems throughout the product development process. This role works closely with suppliers and internal engineering teams to ensure control systems meet PACCAR's requirements for functionality, quality, reliability, timing, and cost. The Control System Owner leads the coordination of activities across multiple organizations, including systems engineering, software engineering, electrical engineering, validation, manufacturing, supplier quality, purchasing, and service engineering. This position is responsible for tracking technical progress, managing risks and issues, supporting verification and validation activities, and ensuring suppliers deliver products that meet program expectations.

Job Responsibilities

  • Manage the development, integration, and release of vehicle control systems from program kickoff through production and field support.
  • Develop and maintain system requirements and ensure they are clearly communicated to suppliers and internal stakeholders.
  • Work with suppliers to ensure PACCAR requirements are properly implemented, verified, and delivered on schedule.
  • Track and manage Quality, Cost, Timing, and Performance (QCTP) objectives for assigned control systems, ECUs, and supplier deliverables.
  • Lead regular technical reviews with suppliers to monitor progress, address issues, and ensure adherence to development processes.
  • Coordinate activities across the systems engineering V-Cycle, including requirements definition, design reviews, implementation, integration, verification, validation, and production readiness.
  • Collaborate with teams across software engineering, electrical engineering, systems engineering, validation, supplier quality, purchasing, manufacturing, service engineering, and IT to support program objectives.
  • Identify program risks, develop mitigation plans, and help resolve technical and project issues that could impact quality, cost, or timing.
  • Support verification and validation planning and ensure system requirements are properly tested and documented.
  • Assist with vehicle launch activities, plant support, and field issue investigations as required.
  • Promote continuous improvement in product quality, supplier performance, and development processes.
  • Demonstrate strong teamwork, mentoring, collaboration, and communication skills across multiple organizations and levels of the business.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 6+ years of relevant engineering, systems development, project management, or supplier management experience.
  • Experience leading projects that involve multiple stakeholders, competing priorities, and external suppliers.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple activities simultaneously.
  • Experience working with technical requirements, development schedules, and engineering deliverables.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to travel up to 10%, including international travel.

Preferred

  • Experience with automotive, commercial vehicle, or other embedded control system development.
  • Experience managing supplier technical deliverables and working directly with engineering suppliers.
  • Familiarity with the systems engineering V-Cycle and requirements-based development processes.
  • Experience supporting verification and validation activities for hardware and software systems.
  • Familiarity with Automotive SPICE, Agile development practices, or similar development frameworks.
  • Experience with risk assessment, FMEA, and structured problem-solving methodologies.
  • Lean Six Sigma, PMP, or similar project management certification.
  • Advanced degree or Professional Engineer (PE) license.
