Control Room Operator

POSTION SUMMARY:

Vanderlande has recently built a large advanced automated warehouse for one of the largest retailers in the world in Canada.

You will play a pivotal role in our support of this state-of-the-art warehouse. You will work closely with various teams to ensure efficient communication and coordination.

The ideal candidate for this position has a strong understanding of warehouse operations, is comfortable with high-tech systems and automation, and is committed to maintaining the highest standards of safety and efficiency.

Essential Functions (Job Duties and Responsibilities):

  • Monitor conveyor system status through SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition)
  • Dispatch technicians, unjammers and cleaners as required (through radio)
  • Determine/coordinate configuration changes to bypass off-service conveyor
  • Report and track service calls and technical issues internally
  • Act as 1st line for remote support using CMMS tools
  • Follow standard operating procedures
  • Follow established escalation guidelines in the event of system downtime or irregular operations
  • Initiate Major Incident procedures when required
  • Generate reports at the end of each shifts
  • Determines sequence and approach with little assistance
  • Carries out a variety of control room activities with little assistance
  • Communicates regularly with customers and technicians over the phone and radio

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word)

Other Requirements:

  • Valid Driver license
  • Minimum 1 year working experience in a material handling (baggage handling, material, warehouse, distribution center) environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Warehouse Operations experience
  • Conveyor services or material handling services experience

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

Full time position; 24/7 operation; this is a rotating shift position that includes both days and nights

Travel:

This position requires no travel.

Supervisory Responsibility:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

Control Room Operators/Dispatchers typically work in the control room, or route centers. Their work can be stressful because total concentration is required at all times. Night, weekend, and rotating shifts are common. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job for investigations and watching system status include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. This job is for the most part sedentary.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear through a handheld radio and telephone. The employee is frequently exposed the baggage handling system, mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.

Salary range:

This is a full-time, nonexempt position, eligible to receive a base salary and to participate in an annual performance bonus program. The salary range listed represents the maximum and minimum starting base pay for this position as of the time of posting. Final salary offered will be determined based on factors including but not limited to the candidate's skills and experience. The annual performance bonus program is preset and not candidate dependent.

Salary range for this position is CAD$72,000 to CAD$77,000
