We’re looking for a Contracting Divisional Manager to lead our Contracting Projects and Rail Departments in Dunedin. The Contracting Divisional Manager is accountable for overall leadership and performance of both departments, ensuring business and project outcomes are achieved.

Mō te tūranga | About the role

You will oversee multiple functional areas (including regional and maintenance projects, excavation, pavement construction, safety improvements, utilities, surfacing and rail), and coordinate all senior project managers, project managers, engineers, surveyors, supervisors, site foremen, employees, plant resources and subcontractors across a mix of large and smaller projects. All aspects of the role are guided by, and aligned with, our company values.

Ngā kawenga matua | Key responsibilities

  • Develop annual budgets and work programmes for the departments and ensure they are delivered within agreed business timeframes, standards and KPIs.
  • Develop, maintain and lead an outstanding safety, environmental and quality culture in the Contracting and Rail teams. Ensure staff are trained appropriately to undertake all work safely and competently. Develop an annual training and competency assessment programme that ensures we have a great Contracting and Rail team to service this business in the future.
  • Oversee the pricing, tendering and securing of forward work to ensure the departments meet or exceed budget targets. Work closely with our bid writer to submit well throughout and industry leading tender submissions.
  • Build and maintain honest and collaborative relationships with our client and all stakeholder groups.
  • Overseeing the efficient and effective deployment of people and resources to deliver on client expectations and business obligations.
  • Ensure contract reports and claims are comprehensive, accurate and delivered on time.

  • Tertiary qualification in Engineering or significant industry experience.
  • At least 10 years’ experience within a contracting environment, including experience working with KiwiRail.
  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation and regulations.
  • Proven experience in pricing, tendering and winning work, a demonstrated. understanding of government and local government procurement processes.
  • Strong and proven leadership skills. Ability to develop a strong safety and quality culture in a team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Proven ability to build and maintain client relationships.
  • Strong understanding of New Zealand health and safety and environmental standards and regulations.
  • Strong commercial and budget management skills. Have a good understanding of a profit and loss reporting and work in progress accounting.
