GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Wyoming Highway Patrol is looking for former Troopers and Law Enforcement Officers who have their Advanced or Professional P.O.S.T. Certification and are looking to work flexible full-time hours. This position supports Executive Protection, providing security for the Capitol and Herschler buildings, located in Cheyenne.

This is a full-time, at-will position to accommodate applicants as a hire-back. Hours are based on agency needs and are not guaranteed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed in the job level.

  • Provide security for the Capitol Complex
  • Executive or Dignitary Protection, Safety Awareness Activities/Promotion, Public Speaking, and Citizen Assistance.
  • Ensure excellent communication skills with the Public, Peers, Chain of Command, and Internal and External Stakeholders in all situations.
  • Anticipate and adapt to continuously changing situations and maintain self-control under stressful situations. This includes working alone while making sound decisions at a moment's notice.
  • Administer First/Medical Aid.
  • Other Trooper II duties include court appearances, criminal interdiction, commercial vehicle enforcement, education, assisting with traffic law enforcement, crash investigations, and other tasks as assigned.

PREFERENCES/**AGENCY REQUIREMENTS:

**Applicants with a current Advanced or Professional P.O.S.T. Certification or equivalent from other states are encouraged to apply. Prior training and certifications must meet the minimum qualifications for a Wyoming Highway Patrol Trooper II position.

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of State Statutes, Commercial Vehicle Rules, and Regulations (State and Federal)
  • Knowledge of WHP Operational Policies and Memoranda, Rules of Criminal Procedure, and SEMM policy
  • Knowledge of Wyoming Highway System, Local, State, and Supreme Court Decisions, ICS Structure and Protocol
  • Knowledge of WYDOT Basic Operating Policy, Snow Plans, Construction Traffic Control Techniques, and WYDOT Organizational Structure.

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Ability to work irregular or extended hours. Schedules may include overtime, nights, holidays, and weekends.
  • Ability to walk, stand, or sit for long periods.
  • Physically able to respond to and mitigate potentially life-threatening situations.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic and rapidly changing environment.
  • Physically able to safeguard individuals from all forms of security and safety hazards.
  • Ability to drive and transport individuals in a safe, professional, and efficient manner;
  • potentially for long periods.
  • Work in environments and under conditions that require carrying authorized weapons and ammunition, and the use of protective gear and devices.
