Responsibilities

The Contract Specialist manages the full lifecycle of contracts for goods and services, ensuring agreements deliver value, minimize risk, and support business objectives. The role is responsible for contract negotiations, contractor and supplier management, compliance, and the effective administration of commercial agreements while maintaining alignment with company policies, regulatory requirements, and sustainability goals.

  • Manage the full lifecycle of service, supply, construction, engineering, and maintenance contracts, from sourcing and negotiation through renewal, amendment, and closeout.
  • Prepare competitive bid documents, scopes of work, commercial evaluations, and contract terms that support value, compliance, safety, and effective risk management.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders, procurement, legal counsel, contractors, and suppliers to support sourcing strategies, resolve commercial issues, and build strong supplier relationships.
  • Monitor contractor performance, compliance, expenditures, invoices, and contractual commitments, recommending improvements and supporting audits, forecasting, and cost control.
  • Provide contracting expertise for plant turnarounds, major maintenance activities, capital projects, change orders, and complex service and construction agreements, including extended hours when required.

Education, Experience & Skill

  • Five or more years of relevant experience in contract management, procurement, supply chain, project controls, or commercial management, preferably in a heavy industrial environment.
  • Strong contract drafting, negotiation, and problem-solving skills, with demonstrated success delivering cost savings and managing complex service and construction agreements.
  • Sound knowledge of commercial and legal contract language, applicable legislation, procurement and strategic sourcing practices, and contractor and supplier prequalification.
  • Understanding of industrial maintenance, turnaround and capital project contracting, and project execution, with a strong commitment to safety and ethical conduct.
  • Strong analytical and financial acumen, communication and stakeholder management skills, and the ability to manage multiple contracts and competing priorities.
  • Proficiency in SAP and Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Degree or diploma in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
  • SCMP, CPSM, PMP, or a comparable certification is an asset.
