About the Role

We are seeking a Night Planner to manage day-to-day UK transportation planning and execution activities during the night shift. The role will focus on transportation planning, load optimization, carrier coordination, shipment execution, and resolving operational exceptions within a TMS environment.

Job Description

The Night Planner will create, review, and optimize transportation plans while responding to operational changes, customer priorities, site requirements, and available transport capacity. The role involves managing unassigned freight, resolving planning exceptions, and ensuring timely shipment execution.

The position requires close coordination with carriers and 3PL partners, including tender management and follow-up on outstanding responses. The planner will also maintain accurate shift handovers and communicate open activities, risks, dependencies, and required actions to ensure continuity of operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Create, review, and optimize transportation plans in the TMS, including management of unassigned freight and loads.
• Perform re-optimization and manual planning interventions based on operational requirements and transport capacity.
• Create and release load tenders and follow up with carriers and 3PL partners to secure transportation coverage.
• Review system reports and resolve planning failures, unassigned loads, and data exceptions.
• Finalize shipment plans and complete execution activities such as load confirmation/posting and monitoring critical movements.
• Maintain accurate shift-handover records covering open activities, exceptions, risks, dependencies, owners, and deadlines.
• Communicate effectively with UK stakeholders, carriers, and 3PL partners.
• Ensure process compliance, documentation accuracy, and ownership of operational activities.

Required Skills

• Hands-on experience in transportation planning, logistics operations, or supply chain execution.
• Working knowledge of a Transportation Management System (TMS).
• Understanding of load planning, transport optimization, shipment planning, carrier tendering, and capacity management.
• Strong problem-solving, prioritization, and decision-making skills in time-sensitive operational environments.
• Fluent spoken and written English.
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, email communication, and operational reporting.
• Ability to work independently with minimal guidance after training and knowledge transfer.
• Willingness to work permanently in the specified night/early-morning shift from the vendor workspace.
• Strong focus on process compliance, documentation accuracy, handover quality, and ownership.

Preferred / Good to Have

• Experience with SAP TM/TMS and/or Blue Yonder is strongly preferred.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate should have practical experience in transportation planning, logistics, or supply chain execution, with hands-on exposure to TMS-based planning and shipment operations. The candidate should be comfortable working independently during night shifts and communicating with UK stakeholders, carriers, and 3PL partners.
