The Contracts Management Specialist is a key position within McDermott’s Contracts Management discipline and plays a critical role in a varied and dynamic contracts management career with a leading international contractor, McDermott, providing engineering and construction services to the energy industry.
This role offers an opportunity for a driven and enthusiastic, experienced professional to own and drive key Contracts Management deliverables while continuing to build expertise through hands-on project involvement and collaboration with senior stakeholders.
The specialist will report into the dedicated global Contracts Management team set-up in Gurgaon, The Contracts Management Specialist will play an integral role to support and undertake contract management matters on large scale energy infrastructure projects. In particular during the EPC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction) project execution phases with multi-discipline interface, as well as support strategic contract initiatives and effective management of contracts
The position covers a broad range responsibilities and the candidate should be well versed in construction contracts concepts, competitive tendering, post-contract practices. We are seeking candidates with >5 years proven experience within contracts management in the EPC energy industry, including at the Project initiation stage as well as for Project Close-out.
The Contracts Management Specialist manages and delivers Contracts Management activities across global projects utilizing existing practices to resolve routine and moderately complex commercial issues while ensuring alignment with contractual obligations.
They are required to take ownership of contracts administration across all project phases, working with guidance and direction from seniors within the team, while proactively coordinating with multi-disciplinary teams on large scale projects.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Drive the on-time delivery of the projects that McDermott execute.
- Independently support the Contracts Management team of various projects on contract related matters, escalating critical issues appropriately.
- Implementing procedural requirements relevant to project contracts management – ensuring contractual compliance and project adherence to relevant contractual procedures.
- Documentation control, compliance tracking and reporting.
- Support in the development of material for the overall Contracts Management organization, including material for the centralized Portal to serve as a central repository for the global organization working on projects worldwide,
- Ensure maintenance of data schedules, contract records and support in reporting requirements.
- Record contractual correspondence and draft notices – coordinate with project management and other disciplines to ascertain facts and supporting information.
- Develop dashboards, reports and KPIs related to contractual performance
- Contribute to in pre-contract activities to support in development of projects prior to award.
- Identifying, assessing, reviewing, and reporting contractual risks for individual items under the project contracts.
- Coordinate Change management, Claims and Disputes (evaluation of schedule and cost impacts, coordination and documentation).
- Review and monitor subcontractors and suppliers' contractual compliance, documentation and records.
- Manage contractual communications with Vendors and Subcontractors
- Develop interface relationships with project supply chains and the interlinks between various contracts/subcontracts.
- The role offers continued professional growth through hands-on project involvement, exposure to complex contractual scenarios, and opportunities for advanced development and training within the contracts management discipline.
- Assist and ensure the preparation of Pre-Contract Award
- Support non legal qualifications to the Contract as part of the bid submission, alignment of terms and conditions with project documentation such as scope, execution strategy, schedule, administration, etc. and identification of any

- Development of Lessons Learned for bid submissions and the bid process for wider cascade to the business via the Estimating and Proposals Managers and required close out actions if any
Essential Qualifications and Education:
- Bachelor's / Post Graduate Degree with background in Contract Management, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or Engineering.
- It is preferable to have five to eight (5-8) years exposure of working experience in Contracts Management or similar experience and roles in EPC energy or infrastructure projects, construction or subcontract management.
- Fluent in the creation and editing of all Microsoft Office Suite documents.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact and build relationships with more senior employees and multi-discipline and multi-national teams and gain respect from others.

- Typically requires a bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline such as Engineering, legal, Commercial or Quantity Surveying and 3 years of functional experience
- Proven experience in contract management within the Engineering Procurement Construction and Installation (EPC/EPCI) industry, in the areas of Energy Transition, Onshore, or Offshore or Subsea and Floating Facilities (FPSO/FPU)
- In-depth knowledge of EPC/EPCI project lifecycles, including design, procurement, construction, and installation phases
- Familiarity with industry-specific terminologies, contracts, and standards
- Strong negotiation skills with a focus on achieving mutually beneficial outcomes
- Ability to analyze complex contract requirements and identify potential risks
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, enabling effective collaboration with diverse stakeholders
- Proficient in using contract management software and MS Office Suite
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills
