Job Description

Continuous Improvement Specialist

Company:

The Boeing Company

Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA) is looking for a Continuous Improvement Specialist to support the Lean BPS (Boeing Production System) team in support of BCA Propulsion in Everett and Kent, Washington. This is a hands-on, floor-first role: the practitioner works alongside operating teams at the point of work, applying improvement tools directly and building the relationships that make changes hold. Not only will this role be a leader of Lean and BPS, but a fundamental partner in applying and implementing the nine BPS tactics – visualize the value stream, balance the line, standardized work, visual controls, point of use, feeder lines, breakthrough process redesign, pulse line, and moving line. We are seeking highly motivated individuals driven by making changes and eliminating waste.

Key Responsibilities

  • Read the conditions on the floor – the work, the people, the process – and apply the right tool for the problem, including the judgment to keep it simple when a full event isn’t warranted.

  • Embed with manufacturing teams on the floor, building the working relationships that get improvements adopted and sustained after the engagement ends.

  • Support the site’s Oobeya — the cross-functional command center, or war room, where the team surfaces problems and works them to resolution.

  • Lead and facilitate Kaizen / rapid improvement events and smaller focused improvement projects.

  • Map current- and future-state processes (value-stream mapping, process flowcharts) to identify waste and opportunities.

  • Collect and analyze process performance data; develop simple visual metrics and dashboards to track improvements.

  • Perform root-cause analysis (5 Whys, fishbone, DMAIC) and design / prioritize countermeasures.

  • Implement pilot solutions on the shop floor; create standard work, checklists, and visual controls.

  • Support handoff and scaling of successful pilots; train and coach operators and supervisors.

  • Monitor sustainment activities (audits, Gemba walks, control plans) to ensure improvements stick.

  • Document lessons learned, update CI backlog, and report outcomes (time / cost / quality / safety).

  • Support small tooling, fixturing, or automation improvements with engineering where applicable.

Basic Qualifications (Required)

  • 3+ years of hands-on continuous-improvement, process-improvement, or manufacturing / operations experience.

  • 3+ years of experience in Aerospace and/or Manufacturing Support

  • Demonstrated hands-on application of improvement tools on a manufacturing or operations floor (not solely workshop facilitation).

  • Strong team-collaboration & interpersonal skills; comfortable leading cross-functional improvement events.

  • 2+ years of experience with Lean tools (Kaizen, 5S, standard work, VSM, etc.) and/or basic Six Sigma problem-solving.

  • Ability to collect / analyze data and create simple charts or dashboards to measure impact.

  • Hands-on, shop-floor presence with the ability to test and iterate solutions.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and change-management aptitude.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired)

  • Six Sigma Green Belt, Lean Practitioner certification, or equivalent training.

  • Familiarity with Lean tools and workshops (Problem Solving methods, AIW, 3P, VSM).

  • Familiarity with basic project management and CI software (Kaizen databases, Minitab, Power BI).
