The Content Strategist creates informative, engaging, and persuasive content to promote the Ohio Technology Consortium (OH-TECH), which often requires translating complex technological concepts for a variety of audiences. This position also oversees several communication channels and handles communications for special consortium initiatives.

Responsibilities of the role include:

  • Leads the organization’s social media efforts, managing the content calendar, responding to requests, and reporting on outcomes.
  • Writes news releases, case studies, feature stories, and promotional and marketing copy as assigned.
  • Produces the monthly internal newsletter, gathering content, writing copy, and handling distribution.
  • Assists with distribution of news releases, memos, and internal communications through the use of the Drupal web content management system, Constant Contact email marketing software, and Carousel digital signage system.
  • Handles routine photography needs (staff headshots, event coverage) and maintains photo equipment and assets.
  • Oversees simple video production and editing requests; works collaboratively with professional videographer and communications team members to produce more complex video projects.
  • Handles communications support for special consortium initiatives, such as the summer STEM Institutes and the Open OnDemand web portal; working with consortium staff to identify communication needs, creating and distributing content, and collaborating with others on the communications team to produce promotional materials.
  • Works both independently and proactively to accomplish tasks and collaborates with members of the communications and events team on projects.

Communications staff are currently working on a hybrid schedule, with in-person work occurring at the consortium’s offices at 1224 Kinnear Road in Columbus. On a regular basis, this position will support in-person communications tasks and events in Columbus, with some potential for travel elsewhere in Ohio and in the United States.

Required Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least two years of professional experience writing for multiple media and audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce engaging content on deadline and work across multiple media types.
  • Experience interviewing internal and external sources.
  • Familiarity with Associated Press (AP) style.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to shift quickly between independent production and team collaboration.
  • Demonstrated ability to use or learn a variety of relevant software and tools for the communications and marketing field, including web content management systems such as Drupal, social media management platforms such as Sprout Social, email marketing tools such as Constant Contact, and digital signage software such as Carousel.
  • Experience shooting and editing photos and videos.

Desired Education/Experience:

  • Two to four years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in technology and/or higher education fields.
  • Professional experience planning communications projects.
  • Experience writing promotional video scripts and interviewing subjects on camera.
