Job Description

The Nexstar Content Desk Producer is responsible for identifying, producing, curating and distributing high-value content across Nexstar's local newsrooms, NewsNation and other Nexstar platforms.

The ideal candidate understands that news is consumed 24/7 through multiple platforms, no longer solely a traditional television newscast. This producer understands how to bring local content to a national audience across all Nexstar platforms, including digital, CTV, social media, and broadcast. The candidate should be comfortable moving quickly between news gathering, writing, video production, live coverage and content distribution.

The Content Producer works alongside the Nexstar Content Desk to produce, write, edit and distribute content across broadcast, digital and streaming platforms for Nexstar's local stations, NewsNation and The Hill. The producer monitors breaking news and developing stories, identifies strong content from local stations, produces digital and broadcast material, coordinates live events, and distributes content to newsrooms across the company.

This position will require overnight, weekend and holiday hours based on Content Desk needs.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Maintains daily event schedules and monitors news developments
  • Researches and analyzes information to ensure complete and accurate reporting
  • Routes live feeds, ingests video, and distributes content to Nexstar stations
  • Monitors and edits news events, press conferences, and interviews for broadcast and digital use
  • Writes and edits scripts for broadcast, digital, and CTV platforms with attention to accuracy and clarity
  • Edits video for vo/sots, packages, and long-form content
  • Develops enterprise story ideas and pitches content relevant to local audiences
  • Publishes and distributes content across websites, apps, CTV, and social media platforms
  • Collaborates with Content Desk team and Nexstar partners, including NewsNation and The Hill
  • Ensures all content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism or a related field, or equivalent work experience
  • 2–5 years of experience in broadcast/digital news
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with an attention to detail
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and handle multiple assignments
  • Strong writing, editing, and communication skills
  • Familiarity with live streaming and CTV production preferred
  • Proficiency with non-linear editing systems and digital news gathering tools (e.g., OBS, vMix, CMS platforms)
  • Understanding of digital news production, including headlines, SEO, social distribution and audience engagement.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with newsrooms across the country
  • Flexibility to work any shift, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed

Physical Demands & Work Environment

The Content Producer must be able to sit for extended periods, use standard office equipment, and communicate effectively in person and electronically. The position requires the ability to make independent decisions and work in a collaborative newsroom environment.

Occasional outdoor work may be required in varying weather conditions. Must be able to lift and operate equipment weighing up to 25 pounds. Work may occur in varying lighting conditions.
