Role purpose

Content & Asset Management Lead is responsible for the safe, organised archiving and management of British Council intellectual property. This role ensures that all learning and assessment content assets meet the desired content management standards for efficient archive and retrieval, that versions/variants are managed and monitored effectively. Additionally, the role will ensure that rights for relevant proprietary assets in the portfolio are effectively managed as well as those licensed from 3rd parties. This role facilitates the reuse and repurpose of existing content as well as works with new toolsets to tag, manage and store new content effectively.

Role context

The role is part of a team accountable for the design, development, and performance management of the digital and analogue products that enable the [For Schools / Higher Education / Work] propositions. They ensure the right product mix, quality, and innovation to support the strategic direction set by the Proposition Directors. This team ensures products are commercially viable, scalable, and aligned with technology, delivery, and customer needs.​

Main accountabilities

Leadership & management

· Manages a team of English language assessment, and learning content management experts, providing direction, guidance, and support to ensure all deliverables serve customer needs and meet quality and compliance standards.

· Manages, prioritises and allocates resources effectively, including the sourcing of external expertise, as required, across projects to ensure effective and timely delivery of diverse responsibilities and project deliverables throughout the entire product lifecycle.

· Creates an inclusive organisational culture, is aware of own biases and acts to mitigate against these. Ensures people are valued and treated equitably, with support for people’s well-being and mental health at all times.

Learning and Assessment Content Management

· Collaborates with Learning & Assessment Design, Content Creation and Product managers to ensure that robust processes and tools are in place for the secure storage, retrieval and version (item) management for content and assets related to English language learning and assessment products, for print and digital products across all propositions

· Collaborates with Taxonomy lead to ensure that appropriate semantic naming and tagging conventions are used for all assets.

· Identifies, contracts with (in collaboration with Supplier Manager and Taxonomy Lead) and manages appropriate platforms for archive and retrieval of all assets, with appropriate security to minimise risks to British Council IP and 3rd party IP.

· Manages use of 3rd party assets and ensures British Council use across all delivery platforms is compliant with the terms of any licence or contract in terms of type/term/volumes of use

· Proactively monitors use of 3rd party assets, putting plans and mitigation options in place where terms of use expire

· Works with internal (and later external) customers to retrieve and supply assets for products and services

· Supports linking online activities from authoring tools into online products and platforms so that customers can find and access them, that correct data is reportable into tracking tools and meta data is compliant with systems to create reports, scorecards, credentials, personalised recommendations, learning paths

· Works with Content Creation team to ensure all copyright records for proprietary and 3rd party assets are secured and retrievable along with the relevant assets.

Relationship and Stakeholder management

· Collaborates with Intellectual Property Manager (D&T) and Legal colleagues to promote best practice in intellectual property management across E&E

· Ensures appropriate training and development is in place for internal and external staff (writers, editors, item writers) as required to use the defined content management and rights standards

Project Management/Commercial and resources management

· Monitors and reports on schedules and progress, budgets and resources for projects requiring content assets.

· Develops, trains and embeds tools, systems and supporting documentation within product teams to support best practice in content and asset tagging, storage and use

· Responds to issues, requests in a timely manner to support speed-to-market and product effectiveness

Risk and compliance

· Working with peers and stakeholders, ensures that product teams adhere to standardised tools, systems and processes, including (but not limited to) semantic tagging systems, file format, storage, distribution, documentation, administration systems, contract and supplier information, templates, risk request, issue, use and product release logs

· Maintains internal monitoring and evaluation mechanisms to maintain effective product releases.

· Coordinates and collaborates with relevant team members to mitigate assessment content malpractice and maintain assessment integrity.

Role specific skills

· Experience of content and asset management in the area of digital and print product development

· Understanding of assessment item management, monitoring and hygiene

· Experience of content tagging systems

· Experience of rights and IP management

Minimum / essential requirements

· Knowledge and Experience of product development and/or management including print, digital and online

· Knowledge of Intellectual Property/copyright

· Experience of procuring goods and services from external suppliers, negotiation

· Experience of managing assets, databases, archive systems

· Full time residency in the UK or Poland with unlimited right to work

Desirable

· Experience of ELT assessment and learning products/publications

· Project management qualification

Language Requirements

· Written and verbal fluency in English
