General Purpose: Supports the Consumer Loan Underwriting Manager and serves as the Assistant Manager for the overall department. Leads the consumer loan processing team to oversee processing operations to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant loans. Provides day-to-day operational support across consumer lending, to also include underwriting decisions, all application channels and lending initiatives.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Supervise, train, and evaluate processing staff through observation, coaching, and performance management to ensure productivity, accuracy, service standards, and alignment with departmental goals.
- Oversee daily loan processing operations, ensuring loans are accurately completed, properly documented, and funded within established timelines.
- Provide continuous feedback, coaching, and development planning to promote employee growth, cross-functional knowledge, operational excellence, and regulatory compliance.
- Monitor team and departmental workloads, prioritizing assignments to meet service level expectations, decision and funding deadlines, and overall lending performance objectives.
- Ensure loan documentation processes are followed, with documents accurately scanned, indexed, and stored.
- Oversee quality control and member experience audits to ensure service standards are met and compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements is maintained.
- Serve as a point of contact for branches, dealerships, and internal partners to research and resolve discrepancies and inquiries while maintaining strong relationships.
- Process and underwrite loans as needed to support staffing demands.
- Support resolution of escalated loans and complex scenarios requiring advanced review and sound analytical decision-making.
- Act as backup to the Consumer Loan Underwriting Manager, assisting with operational decisions, workflow management, and escalations, and providing leadership across all lending functions in their absence.
- Support all consumer lending initiatives, including the development and refinement of workflows, staffing models, and scalable processing and decisioning solutions.
- Collaborate with leadership to analyze performance, improve operational efficiencies, strengthen cross-functional alignment, and support strategic lending initiatives, profitability, and program effectiveness.
- Develop and/or maintain reporting to monitor production and track staff performance against established goals.
- Assist with underwriting and processing across all product lines during periods of high volume or staffing shortages, ensuring adherence to credit policy, risk standards, and regulatory requirements.
Other Duties/Responsibilities:
- Provide day-to-day guidance on consumer loan processing and underwriting to team members, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and adherence to established policies.
- Demonstrate effective leadership through ongoing coaching, regular one-on-one meetings, and active team engagement.
- Facilitate clear, professional, and effective communication between underwriting, processing, external and internal partners to support exceptional service and operations.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Consumer Loan Underwriting Manager.
Job Knowledge:
- Strong knowledge of credit union products and services, with particular emphasis on consumer lending and all loan application channels.
- Working knowledge of organizational policies, procedures, and service standards, with the ability to apply them consistently across daily operations.
- Working to advanced knowledge of loan processing, underwriting, workflows, loan documentation, and funding procedures.
- Knowledge of credit union systems, loan origination platforms, and reporting tools used to support loan decisioning, processing, and performance tracking.
- Demonstrated supervisory or leadership experience, with the ability to coach, and develop team members in a professional and effective manner.
- Thorough understanding of applicable state and federal consumer lending regulations, compliance requirements, and sound risk management practices.

Qualifications (Education/Experience):
A four-year college level of language and reasoning are required. Three to five years of consumer lending experience, including underwriting or loan processing with increasing responsibility, is preferred. Supervisory or demonstrated leadership experience is highly desirable, along with a commitment to ongoing professional development.
Occasional travel to BHFCU dealer partner and branch locations or attendance at community or vendor events may be required.

Physical Requirements
Perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 5 lbs. Must be capable of climbing/descending stairs in emergency situation. Must be able to operate routine office equipment including telephone, copier, facsimile, and calculator. Must be able to routinely perform work on computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day. Must be able to work extended hours whenever required or requested by management. Must be capable of regular, reliable and timely attendance.
Working Conditions
Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with moderate noise.
Mental and/or Emotional Requirements
Must be able to perform job functions with supervision and work effectively either on own or as part of a team. Must be able to read and carry out various instructions and follow oral instructions.
