Description:
Are you a relentless truth-seeker who lives to protect the underdog? Do you get a rush from exposing wrongdoing and holding the powerful accountable? Arizona’s Family is looking for an experienced, aggressive Consumer Investigative Reporter to join our powerhouse team in Phoenix. On Your Side is the most recognized brand in the state, and we need a journalist who won’t just build on that legacy—they’ll elevate it. We don’t just report the news; we solve problems, uncover government waste, and use data to tell the stories that actually matter to our community. Whether you’re turning in a daily consumer hit, deep-diving into a long-form investigation, or engaging with our audience on social media, you’ll be the face of the brand Arizona trusts most.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
What You’ll Do:
• Own the consumer beat: Turn daily consumer investigative stories that provide immediate value and impact for our viewers across Arizona.
• Expose wrongdoing: Dig deep into local and state government, uncovering corruption and waste through aggressive reporting and smart data analysis.
• Host the conversation: Co-host our weekly consumer podcast, taking a deeper dive into the issues that affect people’s wallets and lives.
• Drive digital engagement: Consistently produce original consumer content for social platforms, meeting our audience where they are with tips, alerts, and behind-the-scenes updates.
• Enterprise the big story: Balance short-term wins with long-term investigative projects that spark real change and hold the bar high for journalism.
• Lead in the clutch: Jump into big-story and major breaking news coverage, bringing your investigative lens to the most important moments of the day.
• Collaborate for impact: Work closely with the News Director, Senior Investigations team, and marketing to ensure your stories reach the widest possible audience.
What You Bring:
• An investigative engine: You don’t wait for tips; you find them. You know how to work a beat and develop sources that others can’t.
• Data-driven mindset: You’re comfortable with spreadsheets and public records requests, using them to uncover trends and prove your points.
• Multi-platform fluency: You understand that a story isn't "done" once it airs on TV—you know how to pivot that content for a podcast, a reel, or a deep-dive web article.
• Aggressive curiosity: You have a "never-say-die" attitude when it comes to getting answers and won't take "no comment" for an answer.
• Killer storytelling: You can take a complex consumer issue and make it relatable, urgent, and visually compelling.
• Urgency and empathy: You care about the people you’re helping and feel the weight of their stories, but you move with the speed of a modern newsroom.
• Experience that matters: You have a proven track record of investigative success and aren't afraid to go toe-to-toe with anyone to get the truth.
Why This Role Rocks:
• A Culture of Winning: Join a highly organized, competitive newsroom that thrives on being the best in the Phoenix market every single day.
• Real-World Impact: Your stories will save people money, protect their rights, and change local laws.
• Innovation at the Core: We’re not just a TV station; we’re a multi-platform media powerhouse that values podcasts, social content, and digital growth.
• Arizona’s Family: Be part of a brand that is deeply rooted in the community and treated like family by our viewers.
