Job Description

The Department of Psychiatry, Yale School of Medicine, is recruiting a psychiatrist for an appointment at the Associate/Assistant Professor level, for a position as a Consulting Forensic Psychiatrist within the Division of Law and Psychiatry. Clinical responsibilities will take place primarily at Whiting Forensic Hospitalin Middletown, CT.

The successful candidate will provide independent forensics consultation to the Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS), reporting to supervisors within the Yale Department of Psychiatry.

The Principal Responsibilities of the position includepreparing and reviewing written reports on complex clinical matters and directly answering questions, participating in case conferences of mental health professionals regarding safe management of patients under their care, attending psychiatric risk management meetings at Whiting Forensic Hospital, providing expert witness testimony to state courts and the Psychiatric Security Review Board, and participating in forensic evaluations, such as competency to stand trial examinations, through DMHAS. In addition, the position requires attendance and participation in all required meetings, engaging in the teaching and supervision of Yale Psychiatry Residents and Yale Forensic Fellows, and meeting with clinical teams to address risk concerns regarding their patients.

Qualifications

Candidates must be legally employable and have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in forensic psychiatry, with expertise in risk assessment/management. The primary clinical work assignment will be the CT DMHAS.
