CONSULTANT UROLOGIST -ABUJA

Location: Abuja, Nigeria
Employment Type: Full-Time

Salary: ₦3,500,000+ Monthly (Negotiable based on experience, expertise, and subspecialty)

ABOUT THE ROLE

Our client, a leading healthcare institution in Abuja, is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Consultant Urologist to join its specialist medical team. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive urological care, including advanced diagnostic services, medical management, minimally invasive and open surgical procedures, and emergency urological interventions.

The ideal candidate should demonstrate strong expertise in advanced, laparoscopic, endoscopic, and minimally invasive urological procedures, alongside proven clinical leadership and the ability to manage complex urological cases.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Provide specialist consultation, diagnosis, and comprehensive management of urological conditions affecting the urinary tract and male reproductive system.

  • Perform and oversee advanced urological procedures and surgeries, including laparoscopic and minimally invasive urological surgery, prostatectomy, nephrectomy, cystoscopy, ureteroscopy, TURP, stone removal procedures, and related interventions

  • Manage conditions including kidney and urinary stones, prostate diseases, urinary tract disorders, male reproductive conditions, urinary incontinence, and urological cancers.

  • Perform advanced endourological and laparoscopic procedures, where appropriately qualified.

  • Manage emergency urological cases, including acute urinary retention, renal colic, urological trauma, and other urgent conditions.

  • Conduct outpatient consultations, inpatient reviews, ward rounds, and post-operative follow-up.

  • Develop individualized treatment plans for complex and high-risk patients.

  • Perform and interpret relevant diagnostic and endoscopic urological procedures.

  • Collaborate with radiologists, oncologists, anaesthetists, general surgeons, and other specialists in multidisciplinary patient management.

  • Provide clinical leadership and supervise junior doctors, medical officers, and surgical trainees.

  • Participate in emergency and on-call services as required.

  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive clinical, surgical, and patient documentation.

  • Lead clinical audits, morbidity and mortality reviews, and quality improvement initiatives.

  • Ensure strict compliance with infection prevention, surgical safety, clinical governance, and patient safety standards.

  • Provide patient and family counselling regarding diagnosis, treatment options, surgical procedures, and preventive urological care.

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of clinical protocols and urology service standards.

  • Support hospital-wide clinical governance and continuous professional development initiatives.

  • Participate in community health programmes and awareness initiatives relating to prostate, kidney, and urological health.

QUALIFICATIONS & PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS


  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification from a recognized institution.

  • Fellowship of the West African College of Surgeons (FWACS) in Urology or an equivalent recognized specialist qualification.

  • Full registration and a valid practising licence with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN)

  • Additional international qualifications such as FEBU or equivalent internationally recognized urology certification will be an advantage.

  • Evidence of current professional licensing and good standing.

  • Relevant training or certification in laparoscopic, endoscopic, minimally invasive, or advanced urological surgery is highly desirable.

EXPERIENCE


  • Minimum of 5 years' post-fellowship experience in specialist urology practice.

  • Proven experience performing advanced urological surgical procedures.

  • Demonstrable expertise in laparoscopic, endourological, and minimally invasive procedures.

  • Experience managing complex and emergency urological cases.

  • Previous experience in a tertiary hospital, specialist hospital, or advanced surgical centre is preferred.

  • Experience in clinical leadership, supervision, or development of urology services will be an advantage.
