Consultant Psychiatrist – General Adult – Contractor

Psychiatry UK is the UK’s leading provider of digital psychiatry services, working both privately and with the NHS to support children, teenagers and adults with expert, patient-centred care.

Psychiatry UK engages independent contractors on a temporary basis to provide flexible additional capacity during periods of significant growth, increased patient demand. The requirement for contractor support is temporary and dependent on service demand and capacity. The scope and volume of services will be agreed for the relevant engagement.

This opportunity is for experienced independent clinicians able to provide Consultant Psychiatry services within the Psychiatry UKs general adult service, under private, NHS and RTC contracts on a contract-for-services basis. Contractors retain responsibility for their own professional practice and may provide services to other organisations.

Scope of Services

The Consultant Psychiatrist – General Adult will provide specialist Psychiatry services within their professional scope and the agreed services. This may include:

Clinical Services

• Assess patients referred to the General Adult (GA) service across Private, Insurer Pay, RTC and/or NHS contracts.
• Provide appropriate clinical advice, investigations, interventions and routine review appointments.
• Issue private prescriptions where required, in line with service protocols and regulatory requirements.

Administration & Clinical Governance

• Complete all required clinical documentation and administration accurately and within agreed timescales, including assessment letters within five calendar days.
• Maintain accurate, contemporaneous patient records and respond to patient notes, messages and MDT communications by assigned due dates.
• Work in accordance with Psychiatry UK’s clinical governance framework, policies and procedures, including the prompt escalation of incidents, safeguarding concerns and patient safety risks.
• Maintain appropriate information security and confidentiality when accessing or handling patient information.

Professional Standards

• Maintain GMC registration, Good Medical Practice standards, CPD and annual appraisal requirements.
• Work collaboratively with clinical and non-clinical colleagues to support safe and effective patient care.
• Remain up to date with relevant service, policy and clinical governance communications.
• Plan and manage workload effectively to meet agreed service requirements.

The contractor will retain responsibility for their professional and clinical decision-making within their scope of practice.

Working Arrangements

The services will be provided remotely within the UK.

The scope, delivery of services will be agreed between Psychiatry UK and the contractor. Where specific sessions, meetings or other activities are required, these will be agreed as part of the contracted services.

There is no expectation that the contractor will work exclusively for Psychiatry UK, subject to professional, confidentiality and conflict-of-interest requirements.

To Provide These Services, You Will Have:

Experience delivering high-quality patient care within a remote service. You will be comfortable working independently while collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary colleagues, with strong communication, organisation and clinical decision-making skills. You will be responsive, reliable and able to manage your clinical and administrative responsibilities within agreed service timescales.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

• GMC registration with a licence to practise.
• Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register in General Adult Psychiatry.
• Significant experience working within General Adult Psychiatry.
• Strong experience in the assessment, diagnosis and management of a broad range of adult mental health conditions.
• Experience developing appropriate treatment and management plans, including prescribing where clinically indicated.
• Ability to assess and manage clinical risk, including safeguarding and escalation of concerns.
• Ability to work autonomously and make safe, evidence-based clinical decisions.
• Strong written communication and clinical documentation skills.
• Confident using electronic patient record systems and delivering care within a digital environment.

Independent Contractor Status

This engagement is offered on a contract-for-services basis and is not an offer of employment with Psychiatry UK.

The engagement will be assessed under the applicable off-payroll working rules (IR35) based on the contractual terms and actual working arrangements.
