Priory Hospital Chelmsford is seeking to appoint an Employed Consultant Psychiatrist to join its multidisciplinary team. This is a full-time role (37.5 hours per week), with less-than-full-time applications considered for the right candidate. The post carries clinical responsibility for the inpatient Eating Disorders (ED) service based at Priory Hospital Chelmsford. Referrals to the service are primarily received from local NHS commissioners.

The hospital first opened in 1992 and since then, has established an excellent reputation for providing fast access to high quality treatment for a range of addictions as well as treatment for mental health difficulties. We offer private autism assessments for adults and children, as well as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) assessments for young people. We also have a dedicated young people's mental health inpatient service, Willow Ward, which provides expert care in a supportive environment. As well as our inpatient offering for young people, we also offer a day hospital providing structured therapeutic support without the need for a full admission.

You will be part of a compassionate team who are committed to our patients wellbeing. We take a personalised approach, using proven therapies to help people move forward with confidence and build a healthier, more fulfilling future. You will play a key part in their recovery, assisting qualified staff with the assessment and implementation of individual patient care plans, undertaking routine tasks and activities as directed or delegated to facilitate wellbeing, dignity and treatment of patients.

  • Act as the responsible Consultant Psychiatrist for up to 12 inpatient Eating Disorder (ED) patients at Priory Hospital Chelmsford, including participation in a non-residential 1-in-5 on-call rota and providing cross-cover for consultant colleagues as required.
  • Where inpatient occupancy is low (fewer than 8 patients), undertake a proportionate increase in outpatient assessments; the post-holder will be registered with Private Medical Insurance (PMI) providers to support this activity.
  • Provide consultant-level input and advice to outpatients, working closely with Priory Therapy Services, including services based within the hospital and at local Wellbeing Centres.
  • Participate fully in clinical governance, quality improvement initiatives, and hospital management processes, including attendance at relevant service line and business review meetings.
  • Work to an agreed annual job plan with the Medical Director, covering direct and indirect clinical activities, CPD, and supporting professional activities, with appraisal and revalidation managed through Priory Group as the Designated Body in line with GMC requirements.

You can find additional information in the attached job description.

What you'll bring to the role
