Job Description

Are you ready to take the next step in your CAMHS career? This is an exciting opportunity to lead and shape a new Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) ward within a long-established independent mental healthcare facility. This is a rare chance to build a new service line with the full backing of a leading UK mental health provider.

The organisation already delivers high-quality CAMHS services at several other sites and is now expanding, seeking an experienced Consultant CAMHS Psychiatrist to help launch and lead a new inpatient ward for young people aged 13–18. Flexible working options, including remote working for one day per week, can be discussed.

The hospital provides a range of existing acute and addiction pathways and is now introducing a new CAMHS service as part of its development. As Consultant CAMHS Psychiatrist, you will play a key leadership role in shaping, developing, and delivering this new service, providing clinical oversight to a dedicated multidisciplinary team and fostering a positive, recovery-focused culture for young people and their families.

What you’ll be doing

You will join a compassionate and dedicated team committed to patient wellbeing. The service takes a personalised, evidence-based approach to support young people in building confidence and moving forward toward a healthier future.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Serving as Consultant and Responsible Clinician, leading patient care planning and multidisciplinary collaboration.

  • Assessing and managing complex cases, chairing MDT and CPA meetings, and liaising with patients, families, and external agencies.

  • Providing clinical leadership alongside the Ward Manager and ensuring compliance with organisational and regulatory standards.

  • Contributing to governance, quality improvement, and service development through active participation in CAMHS and ward-level meetings.

  • Engaging in academic and professional development activities such as teaching, case discussions, audit, and research.

Further details are available in the job description.

What you’ll bring to the role

The work is highly rewarding yet challenging, requiring resilience, empathy, and strong clinical leadership.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Hold full GMC registration and be on the Specialist Register.

  • Possess a CAMHS CCT or equivalent CESR qualification.

  • Hold Approved Clinician status.

  • Have significant experience within CAMHS inpatient or community settings.

  • Demonstrate excellent clinical judgment, leadership, communication, and teamworking abilities.

  • Have a thorough understanding of relevant legislation, including the Mental Health Act (MHA) and Mental Capacity Act (MCA).

Informal enquiries can be made via the recruitment team.

What we will give you in return

You will be supported to succeed and develop through structured career conversations, comprehensive training, and pathways into senior clinical and leadership roles.

Benefits include:

  • Free on-site parking

  • 30 days annual leave plus bank holidays

  • An additional day’s leave for your birthday

  • Enhanced maternity pay

  • Contributory pension scheme

  • Flexible benefits, including gym membership, technology schemes, and healthcare cash plan

  • Access to development and training opportunities

  • Sponsorship of professional qualifications via an Individual Professional Development (IPD) panel

  • Leadership and management development programmes

  • Long service awards

  • Refer-a-friend bonuses
