🩺 Job Summary

We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced Consultant Pediatric Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation to join a leading tertiary healthcare institution in the UAE. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive rehabilitation care for infants, children, and adolescents with congenital, developmental, neurological, musculoskeletal, and acquired conditions affecting mobility, function, and quality of life. The consultant will work collaboratively with pediatric specialists and multidisciplinary rehabilitation teams to develop individualized treatment plans and optimize functional outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Diagnose, evaluate, and manage pediatric patients with physical disabilities and functional impairments.
• Develop individualized rehabilitation treatment plans based on comprehensive clinical and functional assessments.
• Manage children with neurological disorders including cerebral palsy, spina bifida, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, muscular dystrophies, neuromuscular disorders, and developmental disabilities.
• Evaluate and manage musculoskeletal disorders, congenital deformities, and rehabilitation following trauma or surgery.
• Prescribe and oversee physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, orthotic and prosthetic devices, assistive technologies, and mobility aids.
• Perform spasticity management using evidence-based interventions, including botulinum toxin injections and other approved treatment modalities where appropriately credentialed.
• Conduct functional assessments, gait evaluations, and rehabilitation outcome monitoring.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary rehabilitation programs involving physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, psychologists, social workers, and rehabilitation nurses.
• Monitor patient progress and modify rehabilitation programs to maximize functional independence and participation.
• Counsel patients and families regarding rehabilitation goals, treatment plans, home exercise programs, and long-term care strategies.
• Participate in multidisciplinary rehabilitation clinics, case conferences, and quality improvement initiatives.
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation in accordance with hospital policies and international standards.
• Supervise junior physicians, residents, fellows, and allied healthcare professionals.
• Participate in clinical research, teaching, and Continuing Medical Education (CME) activities.
• Ensure compliance with patient safety standards, infection prevention protocols, and rehabilitation best practices.

Requirements

Qualifications & Requirements

• MBBS or equivalent medical degree recognized by the relevant UAE health authority.
• Completion of an accredited residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R).
• Fellowship or subspecialty training in Pediatric Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation is highly desirable.
• Board Certification or equivalent specialist qualification recognized under the UAE Professional Qualification Requirements (PQR).
• Eligibility for or possession of a DHA, DOH, or MOHAP Consultant License.

Experience

• Minimum 3–5 years of post-board/fellowship experience as a Consultant in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation with significant pediatric rehabilitation experience (or as required by UAE licensing regulations).
• Extensive experience managing pediatric neurological, developmental, musculoskeletal, and congenital conditions.
• Experience in multidisciplinary pediatric rehabilitation programs.
• Experience in internationally accredited children's hospitals or rehabilitation centers is highly desirable.
• Demonstrated expertise in pediatric rehabilitation planning and functional outcome assessment.

Skills & Competencies

• Expertise in pediatric physical medicine and rehabilitation.
• Strong knowledge of pediatric neurological, musculoskeletal, and developmental disorders.
• Proficiency in rehabilitation planning, spasticity management, and functional assessment.
• Excellent clinical judgment and decision-making skills.
• Strong communication and family counseling abilities.
• Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary rehabilitation teams.
• Commitment to patient-centered care, evidence-based practice, and continuous quality improvement.
• Leadership, mentoring, and teaching capabilities.

Preferred Qualifications

• Fellowship from a recognized international Pediatric Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation program.
• Western Board Certification or equivalent internationally recognized qualification (preferred).
• Experience in pediatric spasticity management, gait analysis, orthotic management, and assistive technology.
• Active involvement in clinical research, publications, and medical education.
