About the Opportunity
This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Company, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. at one of the two main reporting locations, the Corporate Office in Akron, OH or in Greensburg, PA.
The Consultant, IT Internal Auditing plans and leads the delivery of IT assurance and advisory services across FirstEnergy. This individual plans and executes FirstEnergy’s IT audits including communication of draft results to management. The Consultant partners with the Manager and Director, IT Audit & Data Analytics in establishing a risk-based audit plan and schedule. This leader supports the effective execution of the audit plan with assigned resources, which includes ongoing monitoring of the audit plan achievement and proposing necessary audit plan adjustments to align with changes in the company’s risk profile.
The selected candidate may be offered a position within the same job family, at a level that is lower than what was posted. This will be determined based upon the results of the interview process which considers the candidate’s skills, work history, experience level, and other relevant qualifications.
Responsibilities include:
Lead and independently execute complex IT internal audit, advisory and SOX engagements from planning through reporting, ensuring timely completion and high-quality results.
Serve as the audit lead on engagements, coordinating activities with management, business partners, and third-party service providers to effectively execute fieldwork and achieve engagement objectives.
Evaluate IT and business risks, controls, and processes to identify opportunities to strengthen governance, risk management, compliance, and operational effectiveness.
Manage multiple projects and competing priorities while delivering results with minimal supervision and exercising sound professional judgment.
Review audit workpapers and provide coaching, mentoring, and constructive feedback to enhance team performance and audit quality.
Perform root cause analysis and evaluate management action plans to ensure recommendations address identified risks and support sustainable remediation.
Utilize data analytics and technology-enabled audit techniques to improve audit effectiveness and generate meaningful insights.
Research and benchmark industry best practices to enhance audit methodologies and business processes.
Coach, mentor, and develop Internal Audit team members by providing timely, constructive feedback, fostering professional growth, and promoting a collaborative, high-performing team culture.
Maintain expertise in internal audit standards, regulatory requirements, and department methodologies.
Lead the development of audit reports, including clear observations, practical recommendations, and executive-ready communications.
Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders across the organization and serve as a trusted advisor to management.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the Internal Audit function, including people, process, and technology enhancements.
Champion a culture of collaboration, knowledge sharing, accountability, and professional development.
Proactively identify opportunities to add value to IT or the business through risk insights, process improvements, and forward-thinking solutions.
Provide exceptional customer service while fostering engagement and partnership with leadership and business teams.
