Job Description

What you'll do:

• Participate in government-funded and industrial consultancy projects for the fashion and apparel industries
• Conduct literature reviews to identify R&D project ideas related to the development and application for the fashion and textiles industries, especially on new materials, fabrication process, production machinery or systems
• Formulate proposals and carry out consultancy projects in automation, digitization and smartification of operations in fashion and apparel industries
• Manage R&D and consultancy projects in timely manner, including technical and financial aspects and other project administrative tasks, such as preparing proposal with cost estimations, project updates and reports, carrying out experiments, studying and summarizing research findings
• Work closely with R&D researchers and personnel; coordinate with local and overseas universities, research institutions, machinery and software suppliers as well as business partners for project development and implementation
• Provide technical and logistics support for turn-key solutions and marketing programmes for different manufacturing industries
• Perform ad hoc assignments when required
• Occasional travel to Chinese Mainland and overseas for project implementation, new technology studies and project prospection

You'll be a good fit if you have/are:

• Bachelor degree or above in textile technology, clothing studies, fashion, industrial engineering, mechanical engineering, material science or equivalent, with a minimum of 3 years of experience
• Candidates with experience in applied research and development (R&D) projects or industrial automation and smartification are highly valued in this position. Experience in AI applications for marketing, design or manufacturing operations will be an advantage.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey technical concepts to various stakeholders
• Self-motivated, well organised, multi-tasking and able to work under pressure
• Good command of English and Chinese
• Candidates who can demonstrate knowledge of AI, or experience and ability to apply Generative AI tools in their work, will be preferred
• Applicants with less experience may be considered for the position of Technical Officer

2. This is a fixed-term contract position for a period of 24 months subject to renewal.

A competitive salary package commensurate with academic qualifications and experience will be offered. The successful candidate will be employed on a fixed-term contract basis, which is renewable subject to appointee’s performance and the Council’s development needs.
