We work on the Government’s most complex changes across Central Government departments, helping our clients realise diverse ambitions and better service citizens throughout the UK. Our Central Government team works at the heart of UK Government, partnering with HMRC, DWP, Cabinet Office, HM Treasury and many other central Whitehall departments.

We are supporting the public sector’s most important programmes across Whitehall and the wider public sector, using our skills in Strategy and Business Cases, Project Delivery, Operational Delivery, DDaT and Government Commercial.
Conducting structured analysis and modelling to assess the impact of new or proposed policies (e.g. in tax, welfare, digitisation, AI etc.), and translating insights into clear recommendations
Supporting the development of robust business cases, funding submissions and options appraisals for new services or ways of working across government
Contributing to the design of operating models, service blueprints and delivery approaches for new or evolving government functions
Supporting the delivery of transformation programmes that improve citizen outcomes, fiscal security and operational resilience
Analysing and improving front- and back-office processes in Critical National Infrastructure and sensitive environments
Working alongside client teams to embed change, track benefits and support sustainable implementation
Contributing to digital, data and analytics initiatives (including AI-enabled solutions), working with specialists to solve complex data challenges and support evidence-led decision-making
Bringing relevant best practice from industry and across government into client work
Supporting commercial and procurement activities, including market engagement, option development and evaluation
Using approved AI tools responsibly to improve the efficiency, quality and accessibility of our work
Working inclusively across multi-disciplinary Baringa and client teams, creating an environment in which different perspectives are valued
Contributing to the Central Government practice through communities of practice in our expert groups and developing our core propositions

As a Consultant you will take personal ownership of high-quality analysis and deliverables, work closely with clients and colleagues and proactively seek the input required to deliver effectively
As a Senior Consultant, you will additionally shape and lead workstreams or significant deliverables, manage risks and dependencies, guide junior colleagues, build trusted client relationships and identify opportunities to create further value
Experience working in, or delivering projects for, government or public sector organisations, ideally within a professional services / civil service / consulting environment
A strong interest in working with Central Government departments (e.g. HMRC, DWP, Cabinet Office, HM Treasury, DBT, DfE, MHCLG)
Ability to structure ambiguous problems, analyse data and information, and communicate clear, evidence-based insights
Confidence working collaboratively with client teams and internal specialists in fast-paced, delivery-focused environments
Curiosity and interest in technology, digital, data and/or AI, and how these can be applied to improve public services
Strong understanding of how to use digital and AI tools, responsibly and ethically in your day-to-day work.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages for different audiences
