About the Opportunity


An international renewable energy company is seeking a highly connected and commercially driven Consultant – African Market Development to support the expansion of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and renewable energy solutions across West Africa, with a key focus on Ghana.


This opportunity is ideal for senior business development professionals, renewable energy consultants, channel development experts, or industry advisors with strong market access and relationships within the power and energy ecosystem.


The successful consultant will play a key role in establishing local partnerships, opening commercial opportunities, building distribution networks, and supporting long-term market penetration strategies within the renewable energy sector.


This role is ideal for a professional with strong experience in renewable energy business development, channel partnerships, and market expansion. The successful consultant will play a critical role in establishing Opera Energy’s market presence, building distributor networks, and identifying strategic opportunities within the energy sector.


Key Responsibilities


Market Development


  • Identify and map renewable energy opportunities across Ghana and neighboring West African markets

  • Develop and execute a local market entry and expansion strategy

  • Monitor government policies, tenders, and private sector developments within the renewable energy sector

  • Identify key growth areas within BESS, solar, and hybrid energy systems


Relationship & Network Building


  • Build and maintain strong relationships with:

    • EPC contractors

    • Renewable energy developers

    • Industrial and commercial clients

    • Government agencies and regulatory bodies

  • Represent Opera Energy at industry events, exhibitions, and stakeholder meetings

  • Establish Opera Energy as a credible player within the regional renewable energy market


Distributorship & Channel Development


  • Identify and onboard 5–7 potential distributor and vendor partners within the market

  • Assess potential partners based on:

    • Market reach and influence

    • Financial capability

    • Technical expertise and alignment

  • Develop sustainable long-term channel partnerships


Sales & Business Growth


  • Generate and qualify leads for BESS and renewable energy solutions

  • Support the sales cycle and project closures in collaboration with Opera Energy’s international team

  • Drive pipeline growth and revenue opportunities

  • Identify high-value projects and strategic partnerships


Corporate Affairs & Compliance


  • Liaise with local authorities and stakeholders regarding:

    • Regulatory approvals

    • Market entry requirements

    • Business setup support

  • Provide insights into taxation, compliance, and the business environment within Ghana and the wider region


Market Intelligence & Reporting


  • Conduct competitor and pricing analysis

  • Share market trends, customer insights, and emerging opportunities

  • Submit monthly reports covering:

    • Leads generated

    • Partnerships established

    • Market developments and opportunities


Key Deliverables (KPIs)


  • Successful onboarding of 5–7 distributor/vendor partners

  • Creation of a qualified sales pipeline

  • Achievement of monthly lead generation targets

  • Identification of strategic projects and opportunities

  • Delivery of a detailed market entry report within the first 60–90 days


Requirements


Ideal Candidate Profile


Preferred Background & Experience


  • 5+ years’ experience within renewable energy, energy infrastructure, power solutions, industrial solutions, or related sectors

  • Strong understanding of BESS, solar PV, hybrid energy systems, and renewable energy project development

  • Existing network within EPC contractors, renewable developers, utilities, industrial energy users, or government agencies

  • Proven experience in channel development, market expansion, strategic partnerships, or business development

  • Commercially strong with the ability to identify and convert market opportunities

  • Knowledge of South African renewable energy regulations, market dynamics, and procurement landscape

  • Experience working with international companies or cross-border teams is advantageous

  • Strong stakeholder engagement and negotiation capabilities


Preferred Background & Experience


  • 5+ years’ experience within renewable energy, power, infrastructure, industrial solutions, or energy technology sectors

  • Strong exposure to BESS, solar energy, hybrid systems, EPC projects, or power distribution networks

  • Existing relationships with EPC contractors, utilities, developers, distributors, government agencies, or commercial/industrial energy users

  • Demonstrated success in market expansion, strategic partnerships, distributor management, or channel sales

  • Strong understanding of local business culture and regulatory environment within Ghana or the wider West African market

  • Experience working with international organizations or multinational energy businesses is an added advantage

  • Ability to influence decision-makers and develop high-level stakeholder relationships

  • Strong network within the renewable energy, power, or infrastructure sector in Ghana or West Africa

  • Proven experience in business development, channel sales, or market expansion

  • Good understanding of BESS, solar, and renewable energy solutions

  • Well-connected within the assigned market and capable of opening strategic doors

  • Strong commercial, negotiation, and relationship management skills

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
