Are you passionate about solving society’s toughest problems?

Are you looking for a team-based working environment where your colleagues would share your passion for social impact?
If you answered “yes” to all of these questions, we invite you to explore the Consultant role with The Bridgespan Group.
The Bridgespan Group (“Bridgespan”) is a global nonprofit that aims to build a better world by strengthening the ability of mission-driven organizations, philanthropists, impact investors, and corporations to achieve breakthrough results in addressing society’s most important challenges and opportunities.
Founded in 2000, Bridgespan has offices in Boston, Johannesburg, Mumbai, New York, San Francisco, and Singapore. Across these six locations, we have a diverse team of staff with varied backgrounds and experience across multiple sectors. We work with social change organizations such as TaRL Africa, Tiko, and CAMFED; philanthropies and foundations such as OSF, Women First Fund, and The Ford Foundation; impact investors such as TPG’s Rise Fund, Black Ambition, and AfricInvest; and bold funding collaboratives such as TED’s Audacious Project and Co-Impact.
Bridgespan aims for a world where all people have the opportunity to flourish. Given how society works today—as manifest in systems and mindsets that have developed over time—that opportunity is not accessible to all. We are committed to equity, specifically to doing work to help ensure that race, gender, and other dimensions of identity are not determinants of life outcomes and to building an organization where the diverse set of individuals we need can thrive in pursuit of their full professional potential, and to proactively addressing the systems that help or hinder these goals. It is a commitment to both external equity work and internal inclusivity that gets Bridgespan closer to achieving its mission.
Consultants (Cs) play a key role on Bridgespan consulting teams, collaborating to address complex strategic challenges through rigorous research, analysis, and the development of recommendations that help our clients increase their impact. As core members of case teams, Consultants take ownership of significant portions of client work, independently managing workstreams, driving project plans, and contributing to the overall recommendation. Consultants are expected to apply strong analytical, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills while building effective relationships with clients and colleagues. Consultants often collaborate directly with members of the client team and it is expected that they will quickly assume team and client leadership responsibilities.
Once fully onboarded, Cs will follow our 50-50 staffing model, working on two projects at a time with different teams. Cs enter as generalists, projects range considerably in topic and client profile, making it ideal for candidates who would like to build on their academic and personal capabilities, and who are enthusiastic about exploring the full range of work we do. Topics range considerably from education to public health to criminal justice, and much more. Our client portfolio includes philanthropists or philanthropic institutions; nonprofits or movements; and impact investors.
Consultants work 50-55 hours per week on average, with variations week to week in response to client needs. Travel required could be 1-2 times a month depending on projects.
While most of the learning occurs on the job, Cs attend formalized training sessions throughout their career at Bridgespan, beginning with an extensive orientation program. As the Consultants progress, they gain access to additional training focused on developing leadership consulting skills. While the learning curve is steep, Bridgespan invests in helping each Consultant build their consultant toolkit for a successful career: cracking tough problems, communicating solutions with clients and teams, and collaborating across levels including Associate Consultant and Managers.
This role is ideal for final year graduate students in MBA, MPP, MPA programs with at least three years of consecutive working experience meeting the following qualifications:
Consultants are required to relocate to their home office city given the apprenticeship model in our consulting work. Consultants are required to work from their home Bridgespan office at least 2 days per week. This policy is designed to offer meaningful opportunity for in-person learning, relationship building and mentorship, while also offering staff considerable flexibility.
