Basic Purpose
Positions in this jobfamily are assigned responsibilities related to the construction, maintenance, repair or upkeep ofbuildings,groundsor other state property, requiring no license. This may includeassistingin the construction or renovation ofbuildings, general maintenance and upkeep ofplumbing, heating, air conditioning, electrical and other systems, minor repairs to machinery or other equipment, and general maintenance ofgrounds or lawns.
TypicalFunctions
Performs carpentry work in the construction or renovation ofbuildings or additions to existing structures; erects and maintains scaffolds, sheds,forms,frames,fences and other structures; alters and repairs doors,floors, partitions, stairways, windows, screens, and otherfixtures;fits and glazes glass in windows and doors; maintains and repairs roofs.
Installs, replaces, alters,maintainsand repairs plumbingfixtures such as sinks, traps,faucets; makes minor repairs to laundry equipment, sterilization equipment, kitchen equipment and other equipment using water, steam air, or otherfeed line and return or waste disposal lines.
Maintains and repairs lightfixtures, receptacles and switches; replaces light bulbs; maintains generators and motors; oils and cleans motors; troubleshoots and makes electrical repairs not requiring a license; maintains and makes minor repairs to various types ofheating, refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment, such as components, pumps,fans, humidifiers, electric motors, and heat exchangers.
Installs andmaintainslocks and other security devices; repairs or replaces tumblers,springsand other parts; cuts new or duplicate keys; usesfiles, handtoolsand special equipment to change combinations or shorten tumblers.
Constructs,maintainsand repairs concrete and otherfoundations; buildsretainingwalls, walks,fireplaces, chimneys,stairwaysand similar projects; mixes mortar and lays common brick,face brick, cinder brick, concrete block, stone, terracottaor other materials.
Operates,maintainsand repairsvarious typesofequipment used in construction and maintenance ofbuilding and grounds, such as trucks, tractors, bulldozers, power shovels,cranesor semi-trailer tractors,fork lifts, mowers and edgers.
Level Descriptor
At this level employees are assigned responsibilitiesfor the supervision ofworkers engaged in building and grounds maintenance and repair operations or construction and renovation activities, including employees,inmatesand others. This may include overall responsibilityfor a maintenance program which issmall in size, scope and complexity or serving as an assistant to ahigher levelposition in a larger maintenance program, with responsibilityfor one or more phases ofthe overall operation. Responsibilities alsoincludesthe inspection ofbuildings, premises, or equipmentfor needed repairs or maintenance, estimating costsfor labor and material,determiningequipment and personnel needs, making on-site inspections to evaluate work in progress, and preparation ofvarious reports and other information concerning work activities.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies
Knowledge,Skillsand Abilitiesrequiredat this level include knowledge ofthe principles, methods, materials,fixtures,toolsand equipment used in various building and maintenance trades; ofoccupational hazards and safety precautions ofthe trade; and supervisory principles and practices. Skillis required touse various tools and equipment, and to construct,maintainor repairvarious typesofstructures or equipment. Ability isrequiredtofollow written and oral instructions; to supervise the work ofothers; to write andmaintainrecords and reports; and toestablishand maintain effective working relationshipswith others.
Education and Experience
Education and Experience requirements at this level consist offive (5) years ofexperience
in one or more ofthe building trades or an equivalent combination ofeducation and experience.
Special Requirements
Some positions may require that applicants be willing and able to perform all job-related travel normally associated with the position.
Some positions may require possession ofa valid Oklahoma Commercial driver’s license withappropriate endorsementsreferred to in the United States Department ofTransportation Title 47, Chapter 6, Section 101 et seq. at the time ofappointment.
Some positions may require performing moderately heavy lifting or other manual tasks.
Some positions may require training or experience in a specificfield ofconstruction or maintenance work.
Some agencies may have determined positions in this jobfamily to be safety sensitive as defined by 63 O.S. § 427.8.
