Business activity is structured around four regions (LATAM, NA, EMEA, APAC) through seven global lines of business (Property, Construction, Energy, Casualty/Financial Lines & Executive Risks, Marine/Transport, Political/Credit and Political Violence, Space/Aviation). Clients in each region are served by specialized underwriters who rely on SCOR's technical expertise and client knowledge.

We are looking for a Construction Underwriter based in Sydney – Australia, to be a part of the APAC Regional Construction team. This role reports to the APAC Head of Construction in Singapore and will be working closely with the ANZ Market Manager in Australia to underwrite construction business in the APAC region, specifically focusing on Australia & New Zealand.

Key duties and responsibilities

  • Underwrite, build and maintain a profitable construction portfolio in accordance with the SBS underwriting guidelines
  • Market the SBS capabilities and products to Corporate Risk Managers, Brokers and Reinsurance Brokers in Australia & New Zealand
  • Research latest risk management practices, loss lessons learnt, and analyse the portfolio results and market data, leading to produce various marketing and business intelligence documents
  • Report regularly on accounts and marketing activity
  • Proactively manage prospective construction opportunities in the target segments by early engagement with distribution channels
  • Generate new offers and promote the Group by pro-active marketing in accordance with the defined strategy and risk appetite.
  • Receive, select and evaluate offers of Construction business from various sources by independently analysing all information including risk engineering reports, calculate ratings, negotiate conditions of the contracts.
  • Contribute to the technical knowledge of sectors in which the jobholder is working.
  • To cultivate relationships with clients, brokers and reinsurance brokers for business development purposes and explore new business potential through these sources
  • Execute growth strategies including Key account management, and Cross Sell Initiatives. Support other SCOR lines by cross selling (Power & Energy, Casualty, Alternative Solutions, …).
  • Maintain an accurate database of risks accepted in various IT systems used by SI, e.g. Forewriter, Omega II, UP (Underwriting Platform), SalesForce.
  • Contribute to the claims settlement in conjunction with the claims department
  • Positively interact with various internal stakeholders within SCOR, including local Australian treaty reinsurance colleagues and cedant facultative team.

Experience:

  • Prior working experience in construction industry, preferably with experience working in heavy civil construction site.
  • At least 5 years experience in construction insurance/reinsurance market

Education (Preferred):

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
  • Or equivalent current studies for Civil Design & Engineering
