Job Description

The Construction Technology Platform Manager - Material Planning & Purchasing is accountable for maximizing the business value, operational consistency, and long-term strategic impact of Modern Niagara's technology ecosystem supporting project material planning, material-demand forecasting, purchasing, and procurement. This role owns the domain roadmap, governance model, prioritization framework, product backlog, and value-realization strategy, while also ensuring the day-to-day health and effective operation of the supporting platforms.

Why This Role Matters to Modern Niagara

Material planning and purchasing directly affect site readiness, productivity, cost control, supply continuity, and operational visibility. This role provides clear ownership for the technology and workflows supporting these processes, aligns priorities across Operations, Construction Technology, IT, Finance, Analytics, Manufacturing, and project teams, and ensures the domain produces consistent execution and reliable data.

Key Impact / Purpose

  • Set and maintain the domain vision, technology roadmap, governance model, and priorities for material planning, purchasing, and procurement.
  • Translate project and operational needs into scalable platform capabilities, workflows, integrations, standards, and adoption priorities.
  • Measure domain performance and value through adoption, process compliance, data quality, workflow efficiency, demand visibility, and operational outcomes.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Own and maintain the technology roadmaps for material planning, material demand forecasting, purchasing, and procurement, balancing immediate project needs with long-term domain maturity.
  • Evaluate enhancements, new capabilities, releases, pilots, integrations, and process-redesign opportunities, and develop business cases for major investments.
  • Establish and maintain domain governance, including decision rights, intake processes, prioritization rules, escalation paths, and approval forums.
  • Own and prioritize the domain backlog across enhancements, workflow changes, reporting needs, integrations, adoption improvements, and support requirements.
  • Gather requirements from Operations, project teams, Finance, IT, Data, Analytics, Manufacturing, and executive stakeholders, then communicate priorities, trade-offs, and sequencing decisions.
  • Define outcomes and KPIs related to adoption, process compliance, data completeness, workflow cycle times, demand visibility, purchasing performance, reporting, and value realization.
  • Manage platform configuration, workflow standards, permissions, templates, documentation, training, onboarding, functional support, and recurring issue resolution across the domain.
  • Partner with IT, Analytics, Integration Specialists, and Data Engineers to define requirements for ERP, Power BI, scheduling, labour planning, fabrication, service, and other connected systems.
  • Assess product releases and technology changes for operational, technical, training, governance, integration, and data impacts, then lead testing and rollout readiness.
  • Lead the domain adoption strategy, define expectations for good usage, identify barriers, and ensure adoption improves process consistency, project execution, and decision-making.

Must Haves

  • Degree or diploma in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, Supply Chain, Information Systems, Technology Management, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of construction operations and platform experience.
  • 7 to 12+ years of experience in construction operations, construction technology, project delivery, business systems, material management, procurement, digital transformation, or platform ownership.
  • Strong experience with construction, material planning, purchasing, procurement, or comparable enterprise workflow platforms.
  • Demonstrated experience defining roadmaps, managing backlogs, leading governance, or owning business requirements for enterprise systems.
  • Strong understanding of construction material planning, demand forecasting, purchasing, procurement, field operations, project controls, and project lifecycle processes.
  • Strong stakeholder leadership, facilitation, decision-making, communication, and change-leadership skills, including the ability to influence without direct authority.
  • Working knowledge of ERP, reporting, middleware, APIs, cloud databases, analytics environments, data flows, and integration dependencies.
  • Ability to work primarily in an office environment with frequent weekly site engagement and regular movement through active construction environments.

Nice to Haves

  • Experience supporting multiple projects, regions, departments, or business units.
  • Experience with material-demand forecasting, purchasing controls, procurement workflows, fabrication or manufacturing supply processes, and ERP-connected transactions.
  • Experience with Power BI reporting, integrations, enterprise analytics, data governance, or master-data practices.
  • Experience developing business cases, value-realization measures, prioritization frameworks, and executive performance reporting.
  • Experience leading enterprise adoption, release evaluation, platform pilots, training programs, or cross-functional operating-model design.

About Modern Niagara

We build for life.

We build for the life that happens indoors. We know that Canadians spend the vast majority of their time inside buildings. From receiving healthcare to legislating and representing citizens to participating in sports and other activities, we make any space comfortable and healthy for those who use it. We are committed to providing exceptional occupant experiences.

We build for the life of the building. Buildings can best reach the objectives they were set out to achieve when we look at them over the course of their entire life, including design, construction, operation, maintenance, and improvement. For us, using data and evidence to inform decisions provides us and our partners with an effective path towards high-performing, sustainable facilities.

We build for the life of our communities. We know that buildings do not exist in a vacuum. Buildings, streets, and the people that occupy and use them are but a few of the ingredients that make up our cities and communities. We believe that nurturing social equity, enabling economic activity, and reducing our impact on the environment in all that we do – including how we build and maintain our buildings – is integral to playing a positive role in sustaining our communities for us and for future generations.

Modern Niagara helps building owners, managers, and general contractors achieve their objectives by meeting the mechanical, electrical, integrated building technology, and building services needs of their buildings across Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto, Southwestern Ontario, and Ottawa. We also develop custom, turnkey solutions to help reach the desired outcomes.

Recognized by SMACNA and Canadian Occupational Safety Magazine among Canada’s safest employers since 2019, Modern Niagara has been a Platinum Club member of Canada’s Best Managed Companies since 2002.
