Job Description

The Marine Construction Superintendent provides field leadership and oversight for marine construction projects performed by Midcoast Marine Group. Reporting to the General Superintendent, this role is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising daily field operations to ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to quality standards.

The Superintendent works closely with the General Superintendent (direct report), Deck Boss, Project/Field Engineers, Safety Representatives, and craft personnel, and plays a key leadership role in workforce development, performance management, and operational execution. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan, coordinate, and execute marine construction projects in partnership with the General Superintendent from mobilization through completion.
  • Participate in pre-construction planning, including review of project scope, schedules, sequencing, logistics, and cost considerations.
  • Coordinate daily work plans with the Deck Boss, Foremen, subcontractors, and project support teams to ensure efficient workflow.
  • Monitor and communicate project progress, percent completion, risks, and resource needs to the General Superintendent.
  • Supervise daily field operations across multiple marine construction trades and resolve field issues as they arise.
  • Ensure required equipment, materials, job offices, jobsite postings, and site setup are properly established and maintained.
  • Inspect workmanship and field activities to ensure compliance with company quality standards, project specifications, and applicable regulations.
  • Oversee the safe operation, maintenance, and efficient utilization of tools and heavy equipment.
  • Provide leadership and direction to the Deck Boss, Foremen, and craft personnel, holding crews accountable for safety, productivity, quality, and professionalism.
  • Support hiring, training, performance management, discipline, and termination decisions, ensuring new employees receive required safety and job-specific training.
  • Enforce company safety policies and regulatory requirements, maintain safe and orderly jobsites, and stop work when unsafe conditions exist.
  • Coordinate with Safety Representatives and assist inspectors, auditors, and regulatory representatives during site visits.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, EEOC requirements, and other regulatory guidelines.
  • Report field performance, compliance matters, and operational issues to the General Superintendent while maintaining confidentiality of company information.
  • Perform additional leadership responsibilities, special projects, and any other tasks as assigned.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum 5 years of marine construction experience, including work on barges or marine jobsites; equivalent supervisory experience may be considered.
  • Prior supervisory experience with demonstrated success leading, motivating, and holding crews accountable.
  • Working knowledge of marine construction trades, including pile driving, crane operations, welding/fabrication, marine carpentry, seawall construction, and structural concrete placement.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating marine construction equipment, logistics, and multi-trade crews.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills with the foresight to anticipate and mitigate field challenges.
  • Cost-conscious mindset with a focus on schedule adherence and quality execution.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification (or ability to obtain).
  • Capable of performing essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation, including proper use of required PPE.
  • Safely access and work on marine jobsites, including boarding and disembarking barges, boats, docks, and structures of varying elevations.
  • Perform sustained physical activity, including standing, walking, climbing, kneeling, squatting, and working at heights and in confined spaces.
  • Lift and carry up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks in outdoor and marine environments.
  • Recognize visual and audible operational changes in marine construction activities.
  • Remain calm and respond appropriately during emergencies and evacuations.
