Job Description

The Trenching Site Supervisor is responsible for the safe and efficient execution of near-based and land-based trenching activities required for pipeline installation, shore-pull preparation, and associated corridor development. The role ensures all trenching works are performed in full compliance with project specifications, HSE policies, method statements, and schedule requirements, while coordinating closely with subcontractors, survey teams, marine teams, and project management.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Health, Safety & Environment
    • Promote and enforce HSE standards across all trenching operations, ensuring compliance with project policies, PTW requirements, risk assessments, and environmental constraints.
    • Conduct regular site inspections and ensure corrective actions are implemented promptly.
  • Planning & Execution
    • Manage, plan, organize, and control all nearshore and land-based trenching activities from preparation through completion.
    • Develop and implement the daily trenching work plan aligned with overall project milestones and constraints such as tides, weather, equipment, and marine access.
    • Coordinate and evaluate subcontractor performance related to excavation, dewatering, dredging, shoring, backfilling, and corridor preparation.
  • Operational Oversight
    • Supervise day-to-day trenching operations, ensuring adherence to approved procedures, trench profiles, tolerances, work sequences, and safety standards.
    • Monitor productivity, equipment utilization, manpower, and work quality; investigate deviations and recommend corrective measures.
    • Review man-hour forecasts, equipment needs, and resource planning to achieve trenching completion targets.
  • Technical & Quality Control
    • Ensure all changes to trench design, profiles, specifications, and drawings are properly documented and approved through the required project processes.
    • Interface with QA/QC and survey teams to confirm trench dimensions, tolerances, and readiness for subsequent pipeline installation activities.
  • Coordination & Communication
    • Maintain regular communication with office management, field engineering, HSE, marine teams, survey teams, and logistics to ensure operational alignment and readiness.
    • Participate in weekly trenching and nearshore coordination meetings to review look-ahead plans, progress, constraints, and interface requirements.
    • Engage with the Client and their representatives to provide progress updates, address concerns, and ensure full compliance with the contract and approved procedures.

Essential Qualifications and Education:

  • Strong background in nearshore and land-based trenching operations for pipeline or marine infrastructure projects.
  • Proven ability to supervise teams, manage subcontractors, and coordinate multi-disciplinary site activities.
  • Good understanding of HSE systems, trenching equipment, soils/ground conditions, and marine/nearshore operational constraints.
  • Strong communication, planning, and leadership skills.
