Job Description

Special Inspector Position Overview:

With ACI and ICC certifications, you will perform field duties which include reinforcing steel inspection, concrete placement inspection, and concrete sampling at various project sites for structures and walls. Additional inspection services, with applicable ACI, ICC, DSA, or AWS/CWI certifications, include pre-stressed/post-tensioned inspections, post-installed anchor inspections, masonry inspections, structural steel inspections for bolting and welding, wood framing and nailing inspections, fireproofing inspections, and non-destructive testing. Must use a Surface/Tablet computer (company provided) to provide written documentation of inspections, sampling, and field test results daily.

Candidate Criteria: Candidates must be drug-free, have a good driving record, good computer skills (for daily data entry), good communication and writing skills, and be able to physically transport up to 50 lbs. on a consistent basis. Candidates should have good people skills for business/relationship development while possessing a strong commitment to serving clients and our peers. All candidates must thrive in a high-performing, multi-disciplinary atmosphere, and be committed to excellence. Candidates must have a field-appropriate vehicle, such as a truck or SUV (daily vehicle reimbursement provided).

Requirements

Required Education:

  • High School/GED required
  • College coursework (a plus)

Required License/Certification:

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • ACI Field Grade Testing 1
  • ICC Master of Special Inspection
    • ICC Reinforced Concrete
    • ICC Structural Masonry
    • ICC Structural Steel and Bolting
    • ICC Structural Welding
    • ICC Pre-Stressed Concrete (a plus, or obtain within agreed upon timeframe)
  • Active membership with Local Operating Engineers 3 union (may join upon hire)
  • Other ACI, ICC, DSA, NDT, or AWS/CWI Certifications (a plus)
  • Military veterans (preferred)

Skills:

  • Proactive, problem solver, proven track record of dependability
  • Keen attention to detail, and well-developed interpersonal skills (to effectively communicate and collaborate with clients, subcontractors, city agents, and project managers)
  • Must be willing to obtain additional certifications (ICC, ACI, AWS/CWI, NDT)
  • Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic, and diverse environment
  • Must work as a team also while being resourceful when working alone in the field
  • Enjoy learning and sharing knowledge with others for the success of the company.
  • Must have a good understanding of the construction industry.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, plus other computer software applications for data collection, data entry, and time/expense entry.
