Stantec’s Water team based in Burnaby is looking for a highly reliable Site Engineer or Construction Contract Administrator to work night shifts. This is a full-time opportunity for night shift project support for the North Shore Wastewater Treatment Plant. Occasionally day shifts may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform Field Services tasks on behalf of the Owner, including construction administration related processes and document controls throughout the Construction period of the project
  • Coordinate with design disciplines to complete coordination and scheduling of field reviews, processing of RFIs, site instructions, change orders, shop drawings, submittals, deficiency lists.
  • Review submittals for consistency with design intent, building code compliance, and constructability, and coordinate reviews with the Owner and Engineer teams.
  • Conduct and document regular site observations to verify conformity with design drawings and specifications.
  • Act as Owner’s Representative in site-based discussions involving the Engineer and Contractor.
  • Track construction progress and contribute to clear, timely reporting. Anticipate upcoming project needs, identify risks early, and support issue resolution.
  • Contribute to a safety-first work environment in compliance with Stantec’s health, safety, security and environmental policies and procedures. 
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to identify and resolve construction issues
  • As the Owner’s representative, ability to coordinate effectively between Engineer and Contractor to drive practical solutions based on site conditions.
  • Background suitable to carry out field-based decision-making
  • Preference for civil/structural (concrete placement) background and/or construction experience across technical disciplines (including process mechanical and electrical)
  • Experience with heavy construction, with preference for experience with water/wastewater projects
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Requisite knowledge and application of applicable building codes, concrete placement means and methods, materials, and industry standards.
  • General understanding of all phases of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.
  • Ability to check the work of others for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule.
  • Advanced oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.
  • Ability to effectively discuss project issues with contractors, project team, and clients, including the ability to resolve conflict situations.
  • Takes initiative on tasks and in coordinating with other members of the project team, obtaining and sharing necessary information.
  • Preference for candidates with experience within the Metro Vancouver Project Delivery environment
  • Strong organizational skills and understanding of task assignments and schedule.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and good driving record.

Education and Experience

  • 5+ years of solid experience in technical and contract administration aspects of heavy construction.
  • Preference for people with training and/or credentials in construction management and/or contract administration
  • Registered Professional Engineer, or ability to become registered as a P.Eng with EGBC immediately, considered an asset. Engineers-in-Training and Applied Science Technologists with the appropriate experience will be considered, with pay commensurate with the professional credentials obtained.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
