Job Description

Novacom is a commercial General Contractor based in Surrey, BC. We value people, relationships, innovation and culture, and we believe in constantly improving ourselves to provide the best possible service to our clients. Our core business is the commercial construction of financial institutions, restaurants, offices and retail spaces. We're doing construction differently — and we're thinking outside the box about how we can improve our company and our industry.

We are hiring a Site Assistant / Carpenter for a fixed-term position on our new McDonald's restaurant build in Penticton, BC — a ground-up, single-storey wood-frame quick-service restaurant at 698 Eckhardt Ave W. This is a hands-on field role supporting the Site Superintendent to keep the site running smoothly through to completion. The term runs from August 3, 2026 to approximately the end of October 31, 2026, tracking the project's construction schedule.

Requirements

Position Details:

  • Project: New ground-up restaurant in Penticton, BC
  • Term: Fixed-term - approximately July 27, 2026 to end of October 31, 2026 (aligned to the project schedule, may extend)
  • Location: On-site, Penticton. Candidates must be local or able to reliably commute to Penticton for the duration of the project.
  • Hours: Day shift. Some evening, night, or weekend hours may be required depending on the project schedule.

Job Duties:

  • Site support — Work on site under the Site Superintendent to keep the site running smoothly
  • Carpentry & general tasks — handyman work and carpentry tasks (e.g. backing, building hoarding, formwork) plus all other assistance required on site
  • Site maintenance — cleaning and organizing the site for trade access and efficiency
  • Trade coordination — call trades ahead of scheduled work to confirm readiness and help keep the schedule moving through efficient, quality work
  • Safety — complete daily hazard assessments, site inspections, sign-in sheets, and trade orientations under our COR Safety Program
  • Documentation — take progress photos and support daily logs and documentation in Procore
  • Deficiencies — wrap up all items at close of the project

Personal Characteristics:

  • Driven — self-motivated and ready to push things forward no matter the circumstance
  • Energetic — takes on challenges with enthusiasm
  • Humble — willing to admit a mistake and take ownership
  • Personable — builds solid relationships with trade partners and co-workers
  • Reliable — dependable and punctual — on site before trades, stays after they leave

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years' experience in the construction industry
  • Carpentry ticket or trade qualification an asset — we welcome apprentices (Level 1, 2, 3) and Red Seal Carpenters
  • Solid hands-on construction knowledge — understanding of the construction process, materials, tools and machinery, and trade sequencing
  • Ability to work independently without close supervision
  • Ability to communicate and problem-solve effectively with supervisors, team members and subcontractors
  • Comfortable with (or willing to learn) Procore for daily logs and photos
  • Must have independent transportation and the ability to get to the Penticton site
