UW Facilities Project Delivery Group has an outstanding opportunity for a Construction Project Manager, Major Capital Projects, to lead complex construction projects across multiple campuses.

About this Opportunity

Reporting directly to the Director of Small Projects, this position will serve as the University’s representative to lead the planning, design, procurement, construction, and acceptance of capital projects, within the limits of delegated authority and the approved project budget. The position will also be responsible for managing the design program, leading a team of project managers, overseeing their daily activities, coordinating project workload allocation, providing yearly evaluations and assisting the project managers in attaining their goals. 

This position is based at UW Tower near the Seattle Campus and telework eligible.

Key Responsibilities

Project Management (65%) 

• Manages multiple projects at various phases and in various locations, from project identification through design, approvals, permit issuance, construction, commissioning, and overall project close out. 
• Works with user groups and appropriate University units, develop project goals, scope, budget, and schedule to support the program. Describe this in the Project Work Plan and obtain approval for execution. 
• Manages the project to achieve project goals within the approved budget and schedule parameters. Obtains approval for changes to budget and schedule where required. 
• Procures and manages the work of the project team to maximize collaboration and project value. 
• Working in partnership with the University construction manager, reviews project during construction, review of changes to ensure programmatic, budgetary and schedule conformance; recommend final project acceptance, and participate in resolution of contract disputes. 
• Develops project hazard analysis. Develop plan and obtain approval for program to address hazards. Work with the University construction manager to establish safety requirements with each project. 
• Coordinates review and approves change orders; approves invoices, reviews projects for compliance with contract commitments, prepares project status and budget reports; prepares documents for review by institutional governing boards; 
• Ensures project issues are resolved at the lowest possible level and utilize the project governance structure effectively. 

Planning (20%) 

• Participates with other UW Facilities units in formation of given projects, including establishment of goals, budget, schedule, funding plan, and benchmarking. 
• Participates in and support the space/asset management effort and functions to manage UW physical assets to produce highest return considering the Campus Master Plan, Land Use Plan, and Strategic Plan. 
• Responsible for ensuring that project data and reports are updated as required in various UW Facilities reporting databases. 

Owner’s Representation (10%) 

• Conducts consultant selection process; estimates fees, evaluates proposals, recommends consultant selection, negotiates, and prepares contract agreements. 
• Directs the work of consultants to provide project design in conformance with project program, budget and schedule. 
• Represents the institution to Federal, State and local funding, planning and regulatory agencies. 
• Keeps appropriate governmental and interest groups fully informed; organize and participate in presentations to institutional governing boards and committees. 

Other (5%) 

• Perform other duties, as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture and at least 5 years of related and progressively responsible work experience.  

Additional Qualifications

• Proficient and comfortable with technology-based project management systems and software such as MS Office (MS Project, Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.), Bluebeam, Smartsheet, PM Web. 
• Experience working in a high-volume environment. 
• Experience managing projects that encompass reduction of green house gases, utility work, and infrastructure renewal. 

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree of Science in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture. 
• Working knowledge of MEP systems and engineering concepts. 
• Strong understanding of civil engineering principles, codes, and regulations. 
• Experience managing overlapping complex projects with multiple stakeholders and multiple funders. 
• Initiative and ability to obtain appropriate results with minimum direction. 
• Excellent organizational skills. 
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving and communication skills. 
• Experience managing projects in occupied and operating facilities. 
• Certification as a registered engineer or architect in the State of Washington. 
• Higher education, public works, or developer experience.

UW Facilities (UWF) manages the University’s buildings, infrastructure, and land with more than 1,100 employees in a variety of fields. Organizationally, UWF consists of five units: the Operations group includes, Maintenance & Construction (buildings and grounds), Building Services (custodial and waste management/ recycling), Transportation Services, and Regulated Materials delivering services primarily on the Seattle Campus; the Asset Management group includes Project Delivery Group (PDG), Engineering Services, Campus Architecture and Planning, and Sustainability throughout the UW enterprise; the Campus Utilities & Operation, Human Resources, Finance, Business Intelligence & Information Technology group, Communications, and Safety report directly to the head of Facilities. Please visit the UW Facilities web page for more information: https://facilities.uw.edu/. 

The Project Delivery Group (PDG) is comprised of an executive director, directors, project and construction managers, contract manager and administrators, design and construction partners, within the Asset Management unit in UW Facilities. The PDG is responsible for the delivery of capital projects that help fulfill the University’s teaching, research, health care and innovation mission. From concept to completion to transition to occupancy, PDG leads the planning, design and construction required to execute and successfully complete projects ranging from small remodels to new buildings. As respected industry leaders, PDG brings experience, knowledge, a collaborative mindset, and a focus on client service to comprehensively manage all aspects of the different project delivery methods including critical patient care rosters, job order contracting, design-bid-build, GCCM, design-build and public/private partnerships. 

Compensation, Benefits and Position Details

Pay Range Minimum:

$96,960.00 annual

Pay Range Maximum:

$135,300.00 annual
