Job Description

Last Energy seeks a Construction Project Accountant to support the procurement and budgeting for micro nuclear reactor projects. As our Construction Project Accountant, you will own the procurement accounting lifecycle across active project budgets — working inside an established three-way match PO system and partnering closely with project managers, procurement, and operations to ensure every dollar is tracked, approved, and auditable.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Own project-level purchase order management — initiating, tracking, and maintaining purchase orders through the full three-way match process (PO, receipt, invoice)
  • Monitor and manage project budgets against approved commitments; flag variances and work with PMs to resolve discrepancies before they become problems
  • Maintain organized order histories and approval records in NetSuite, ensuring audit-ready documentation at all times
  • Review and code vendor invoices against correct project cost codes and budget line items; route for appropriate approvals
  • Administer project-level spend in expense management platform (Ramp) — enforce coding policy, reconcile card transactions to project budgets, and ensure receipt documentation meets compliance standards
  • Support project managers with budget-to-actual reporting and commitment tracking throughout the project lifecycle
  • Participate in procurement approval workflows, ensuring purchases align with project scope and authorized spend levels
  • Maintain meticulous records in support of regulatory, lender, or third-party audits
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • 2–4 years of accounting or project controls experience, ideally in construction, energy, defense, aerospace, or another heavily regulated capital project environment
  • Exposure to Ramp or similar spend management platforms
  • Experience working within a formal Purchase Order process, including three-way and two-way procurement matching
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Process-oriented mindset
  • Comfortable working cross-functionally with non-accounting teams in a fast-moving startup environment
  • Proficient in Excel; able to manage and reconcile budget tracking independently
  • Hands-on NetSuite experience & familiarity with project/job costing modules is preferred
  • Background in government-regulated construction is a plus
  • Familiarity with document control standards in regulated industries is a plus
