We are seeking a full-time Electrical Engineer - Construction Manager (Low Voltage Systems) to join our team supporting projects at the Bay Pines VA Medical Center in Bay Pines, Florida This program includes new construction and phased renovation work on an active VA medical campus, including historic buildings. The work consists of a multi-million-dollar renovation of the main hospital building and related infrastructure improvements, with projects occurring in various stages including planning, design, procurement, construction, and closeout. This position serves as the Owner’s Representative supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs during construction activities. Some of the duties of the successful candidate include:

  • Perform field inspections of low-voltage systems that may include structured cabling, telecommunications, fiber optic infrastructure, nurse call, security/access control, CCTV, fire alarm, and building automation systems to verify construction complies with contract documents, approved submittals, and applicable codes and standards.
  • Observe contractor and subcontractor work and report issues related to workmanship, materials, safety, or code compliance. Assist in developing punch lists and tracking corrective actions through completion.
  • Identify shutdown and operational impacts associated with low-voltage work.
  • Prepare daily reports documenting construction progress, manpower, work activities, and site conditions.
  • Maintain organized project files including inspection reports, correspondence, photographs, and deficiency logs.
  • May review contractor submittals, RFIs, testing reports, and inspection documentation.
  • Assist with preparation or review of change orders, cost proposals, and contract modifications as requested.
  • Support contract close-out activities and final inspections.
  • Attend weekly project meetings and coordinate with project stakeholders including contractors, engineers, and VA staff.
  • Assist with coordination of special inspections, testing, and commissioning activities.
  • Assist site Safety Manager with daily observations ensuring work activities align with OSHA, EM-385-1-1, and project safety requirements.
  • Document field conditions and events that may impact schedule, cost, or quality and communicate those observations to the VA. Provide field input to project scheduler as requested.

Relevant Experience

  • Should have a minimum of 5 years of construction experience, and preferably in healthcare or federal construction projects.
  • Familiarity with IT room buildouts, MDF/IDF spaces, pathway coordination, grounding/bonding, and equipment installation requirements.
  • Experience working with VA OIT personnel and commissioning teams is a plus.
  • Familiarity with testing and turnover requirements for low-voltage systems including fiber testing, labeling, certification, and as-built documentation.
  • Working knowledge of applicable NEC, NFPA, TIA/EIA, BICSI, and VA low-voltage standards preferred.
  • Understanding of building, electrical, safety, and environmental codes and standards, along with general knowledge of architectural, civil, and structural disciplines.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology or a related field from an accredited institution or an equivalent combination of education, professional licensure, training, and demonstrated work experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work independently and with a team.
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and common software platforms used in construction management and project coordination.

Physical Requirements

Ability to climb permanent and temporary stairs, ladders, and access construction personnel hoists. Ability to safely navigate active construction sites, including uneven terrain and partially completed work areas. Regular exposure to construction environments, including moving mechanical parts, elevated work areas, airborne dust, fumes, outdoor weather conditions, and potential electrical hazards. Ability to occasionally lift and carry equipment weighing 10–25 pounds.
